I offer free one hour initial consultations.

Services Offered For Fixed Fees?

I do not represent clients on a fixed-fee basis in Family Law matters. Due to the adversarial nature of these cases, it's very difficult to adequately predict how other parties will respond during the litigation process, which makes estimating fixed fees practically impossible.

Hourly Rates

My rates are competitive for my community; and rates may vary slightly, depending on the nature of the case.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I have a passion for helping families navigate the legal system. I enjoy making a difference in people's lives and seeing them move forward in a positive way after encountering some difficult times in a family law case. There's nothing more rewarding than knowing you helped a child by helping his or her parents realize how and why that child must be the primary concern of the Court in a family law case.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It's very important for clients to have a fundamental understanding of what's involved in the legal process before undertaking a Family Law matter. I provide my clients with information and resources, and then we discuss their legal options, including the Collaborative process, Mediation, and Litigation. I encourage them to ask questions. I believe that managing expectations in this way eases our client's fears and anxieties.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Due to liability issues, I am reluctant to offer legal opinions on documents that prospective clients have prepared themselves for use in the legal system. I offer a free initial consultation with prospective clients to discuss why I believe hiring a Family Law attorney to draft their documents, among other things, offers them the best protection.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Clients are often surprised to learn that filing a document at the courthouse is only the beginning step of a sometimes very long and complicated legal process. I try to carefully explain all the required steps and deadlines in the process, describe the appropriate legal documents that should be filed on their behalf, and identify some of the potential legal pitfalls along the way. It has been my experience that most clients are appreciative of this information and quickly realize why having a professional to represent them is so critical in Family Law matters.

Law Office of Aleta Peacock

My former careers include real estate sales broker and software consulting.

My life experience as a wife, mother, grandmother, and divorced woman is what makes me a better Family Lawyer. I have been there. I have personally experienced the pain and sadness of a family breaking up. And I have also represented many families in the legal system to find a way to move forward after Divorce with their dignity and respect still intact.

I am a problem solver. I understand that not everything works for everyone, and that people are unique, and so are their circumstances. I am able to help clients navigate the legal system in a variety of ways to meet their goals -- whether through the Collaborative process, Mediation, or Litigation. And I am good at finding creative solutions for couples in otherwise contentious areas -- such as property divisions, access schedules for their children, and relocation issues. Most people just want the legal process to "be over" so that they can feel good and return to their lives in a positive way. I help them get there.

Personal interests:

Genealogy, gardening, cooking, and entertaining my cat and dog.
