Estate Planning

A small amount of work in the area of Estate Planning can help your loved ones and heirs avoid long delays, legal problems, uncertainty, and a potentially large tax burden.

A timely and effective estate plan will provide you with benefits other than tax savings. For example, you, rather than the Court, can designate guardians for your minor children. Also, having an estate plan can prevent your family from having to make difficult medical decisions regarding your care.

Your Planning Team

Many people can be "Estate planners" but the best planner, by far, is you. With the assistance of our office, you can become acquainted with the planning process and the benefits. With the assistance of trained professionals, you can learn how to manage your assets and achieve the results you want with your estate. Some professional advisors who can provide assistance include the following:
*Your accountant
*Your attorney
*Your insurance agent
*Your trust officer

Probate

We assist with the administration of probate and non-probate Estates and Trusts.

After a loved one passes, there remains the often burdensome or confusing responsibility of administering their estate or trust. Assets must be located, and valued. Debts must be assessed and paid. Taxes must be filed. And ultimately, the estate must be distributed. We advise Personal Representatives, Trustees, and other interested parties on this process, becoming as involved as the client desires. We may manage the entire process and complete all required court filings, or we may guide you through completing these items yourself.

Real Estate

We are attorneys familiar with all facets of real estate law from purchases and sales to land disputes.

We can help with the purchase and sale of a home, co-op, condominium and/or commercial property. The legal aspects of contracts, title insurance and financing change regularly, and we provide legal counsel to ensure that you understand the many legal exposures presented throughout the process. We also provide legal assistance in real estate matters that may arise after a purchase or sale, such as property line disputes, adverse possession, easements, riparian rights, failure to disclose and fraud claims.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It is helpful for clients to be educated and important that they stay informed and active in pursuing their goal. However, we believe it is our job to educate our clients on their issues, their options, and the legal basis behind both.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Although we are willing to review documents prepared by clients, it has been our experience that it is more cost effective to create the documents.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

If the firm's representation of a client is not cost effective, the best course of action is for the client to represent themselves. If this is the case, we will fully support the client and help them obtain their desired outcome.
