I tried to print my document from Nolo software, but all I got were strange characters, part of a page or nothing at all. Why is this happening?

There can be several reasons for this.

  • Printer driver. You may have the wrong printer driver selected. Check your printer setup and go to your printer manufacturer's web site to make sure you have the latest driver.
  • Interference by other software. Some programs alter the printer setup with special format commands, or fail to reset a printer to its default settings when finished. Try resetting your printer by turning it off and on again before printing.
  • Network printers. If your printer is part of a network, the network itself may have special commands. Your system administrator may need to alter some settings.

When I try to print or display documents, I get crashes/freezes. What can I do?

Try taking the following steps:

  • Quit the program, restart it and try printing again. If that doesn't work, try restarting your computer before restarting the program.
  • Create a test file and see if it has the same problem. In most cases, you start this process by selecting New from the program's File menu. Name and save the new file, and, if necessary, select which document you want to work on. As you enter data, enter 123 or AAA into every field to get you through. When you try printing, do you encounter the same issue? If not, then your original is corrupt, and you'll have to start over -- that is recreate by creating a new file and entering actual data.
  • If you have an Apple Color Stylewriter 1200 or 2400, get the 2500 driver from the Apple Web site.
  • Get the latest printer driver. Make sure you have the current version of your printer driver from your printer manufacturer's Web site.
  • If you are a Mac user, delete your Preferences file, which  may be corrupt. This file will be recreated the next time you start the program. The Preferences file, located in the Preferences folder within your System folder, will be named after the program itself.

I still have questions. Where can I get more help?

Here are some more places to look for help in using the software:

  • Users' Manual -- the manual should answer most questions about using the software.
  • Program Help -- the Help file can usually be opened through the program's Help menu. If not, see the User Manual for information on how to open the Help file.
  • ReadMe file -- always read the "ReadMe" file included with the program. It has information that may help you fix your problem or answer your question. Look for the ReadMe file in the folder or directory where your program is installed.

If you have legal questions, please consult the program's help system and legal manual (if one came with your software). Nolo's Technical Support staff cannot answer legal questions.
