You may have seen headlines about a new citizenship exam, with a new set of 100 study questions to learn, and new English words and sentences to practice writing. Don't worry, you don't have to take the new exam quite yet.

Here's the schedule for who will take which version of the exam:

• If you both apply and are scheduled for your naturalization interview BEFORE October 1, 2008, you'll take the old version.
• If you apply BEFORE October 1, 2008 and are scheduled for your naturalization interview AFTER October 1, 2008, you can choose to take the old or new version -- until October 1, 2009, at which time everyone must take the new one.
• If you apply AFTER October 1, 2008, you'll automatically take the new version of the test.
