If you got a green card with a two-year expiration date -- that is, conditional residence -- you already know from Nolo products that you must, within the three months before your card and status expire, submit an application to have the conditions removed and become a permanent resident. This affects many people who got their green card through a recent marriage to a U.S. citizen, as well as anyone who got a green card based on investment.
As before, the application is made on Form I-751, and you must submit documents and an application fee along with it. Now, however, you must also submit a "biometrics" fee, currently $80.
And in another change, after you've sent in your application, you'll be called in to have your fingerprints and photos taken, most likely at a USCIS Application Support Center. They'll do security checks on you using your fingerprints before making a final decision on your application or calling you for an interview (if they decide to interview you).
