Should You Offer Severance Pay?
Some employers assume that they have to offer a severance package -- a combination of money and continuing benefits -- to fired employees. In many cases, this assumption is incorrect. However, even if you aren't legally required to provide severance, it might still be a good idea; it can help soften the blow of being fired -- and buy you some insurance against wrongful termination lawsuits.
