Whoops -- Pardon Our Math Error
Effective date:
Jun. 1, 2008
The 9th edition of Chapter 13 Bankruptcy includes a math mistake. In Chapter 8, which covers Chapter 13 repayment plans, we explain that paying bills through your repayment plan can be more expensive because the trustee takes a percentage of each payment to cover administrative expenses. But we made it sound quite a bit more expensive than it is: The example on page 150 says paying an extra $200 a month for administrative expenses over a five-year plan would add up to $120,000. Yes, that's one too many zeroes: The true cost would be $12,000. We apologize for any confusion this might have caused.
