Only 30% of Asylum Applications Get Approved

Whether an asylum applicant is applying for asylum affirmatively or in court (when facing removal proceedings), a recent Congressional study has found that applicants chances of approval are low a mere 30% of asylum applications over the last several years have gotten approved.

More disturbingly, the rates of approval depend a lot on which part of the United States one applies in. Applicants in San Francisco, California, for example, are 12 times more likely to be approved than those in Atlanta, Georgia.
