The Supreme Court's ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act opens up benefits for same-sex spouses of active military members and veterans. Congressional action and agency rule promulgation are still required to implement the ruling, but veterans health care and disability benefits (DIC), as well as military health care, the survivor benefits plan, and other benefits should soon be available to same-sex spouses of military sevice members and veterans. We'll update this page as the legislation develops.
