Increases in Ohio Bankruptcy Exemption Dollar Amounts

The Ohio Judicial Conference adjusted the Ohio bankruptcy exemption dollar amounts for inflation in April 2013. The new dollar amounts will be effective from April 1, 2013 to April 1, 2016. The Ohio bankruptcy exemption amounts are as follows:

Homestead -- $132,900

Cash on hand or deposit - $450  

Motor vehicle – $3,675  

Household goods, such as furnishings and appliances, up to a value of $575 per individual item, $12,250  total

Jewelry -- $1,550  

Personal injury recoveries -- $23,000

Tools of the trade -- $2,325

Wildcard -- $1,225
