Immigrants Can Now Submit Changes of Address Online

If you're a non-citizen living in the United States, you know from reading Nolo products that it's extremely important to advise USCIS of your new address if you move. You have ten days in which to take care of this -- if you forget, you risk being removed from the United States.

Fortunately, you no longer need to send a card by mail, but can advise USCIS online and receive confirmation that your message got through. To use the system, go to www.uscis.gov/AR-11. You'll need your:

• USCIS receipt number (if you have a pending case with USCIS)
• new and old addresses
• names and biographical information for any family members for whom you have filed a petition, and
• date and location (port of entry) of your last entry into the United States.

But that's not all: If you have any separate applications pending with USCIS (for example, for adjustment of status or naturalization) you should continue to follow the advice in our books concerning advising that office separately (naturalization applicants can do so by telephone at 800-375-5283).
