Estate and Gift Tax Changes for 2013

Under legislation passed by Congress on New Year's Day 2013, the federal gift/estate tax will continue to affect only the richest American families. For deaths as of January 1, 2013, the exemption amount is $5.25 million per person, and the tax rate is 40%.
