Chapter 6 of The California Landlord's Law Book guides readers through the filing and serving of an unlawful detainer complaint (an eviction lawsuit). On page 84, "Personal Service," the text explains how to fill out the Summons when performing service. The text refers to incorrect boxes on the Summons and asks the reader to look at the wrong form for an example of how it's done.
Incorrect, current text: "Before personally serving the papers, the process server must check boxes 1 and 4 on the bottom front of the Summons copies to be served, and fill in the date of service in the space following box 4. A sample is shown below." [The sample below, however, is of the Proof of Service of Summons.]
Correct text: "Before personally serving the papers, the process server must check boxes 4a and 5 on the bottom front of the Summons copies to be served, and fill in the date of service in the space following box 5. See the Summons form example on page 63."
