Washington, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Dakota Increase Small Claims Court Limits

Effective July 1, 2008, Washington state small claims courts will decide cases in which the amount in dispute is as much as $5,000. The previous limit was $4,000. Effective date: Jul. 01, 2008

Effective Aug. 15, 2008, Louisiana justice of the peace courts will decide cases in which the amount in dispute is as much as $5,000. The previous limit was $3,500.
Effective date: Aug. 15, 2008

Effective July 1, 2008, Mississippi state justice courts will decide cases in which the amount in dispute is as much as $3,500. The previous limit was $2,500.
Effective date: Jul. 01, 2008

Effective July 1, 2008, South Dakota small claims courts will decide cases in which the amount in dispute is as much as $12,000. The previous limit was $8,000.
Effective date: Jul. 01, 2008
