Clarification Regarding When Asylees Can Apply for Citizenship

In Chapter 2 of Nolo's Becoming a U.S. Citizen, we note that, due to a concept called "rollback," people who've received political asylum can apply for citizenship four years after the date they're approved for permanent residence.

But please note that we meant the date of ACTUAL approval for permanent residence, not the date shown on your green card. USCIS backdates the green cards by one year, to account for the rollback. So the date you can apply for citizenship is a full five years after the date of approval for permanent residence that's shown on your green card.
