Sample Letter with Landlord: Repairs for Current Tenants

A letter of understanding can avoid repair-related disputes with your landlord

The best way to get your landlord to make repairs is to put every repair and maintenance request in writing. Your request for repairs letter should include a detailed description of the problem, how it affects you, what exactly you want done, and when you want the repair done (some problems are more urgent than others). If you and your landlord agree on a plan of action, it’s a good idea to write down your understanding of this agreement.

You can use this Sample Letter of Understanding With Landlord to Make  Repairs as a model in preparing your own letter. Send a copy of this letter to your landlord, asking him or her to let you know if you have missed or misstated anything.
