Safety First

There's one extra hitch when it comes to payments. In 2008, eBay began requiring that some sellers offer "safe payments." What's a safe payment? It's one in which the seller offers either PayPal or a merchant credit card to customers. (PayPal buyer protection covers most qualified transactions up to $2000.) Sellers are required to provide this option to customers when:

  • the listing is in a "risky" category such as computers and cell phones

  • the seller has 5% or more dissatisfied customers (as measured by the DSR), or

  • the seller has less than 100 Feedback.
