More about Government & Environment
A wide variety of cases come under the heading of "Government" law. All kinds of administrative hearings, like those involving food and drug approval, Medicare and Medicaid, and veterans' affairs, are considered government law. If you've been denied Social Security disability benefits, if your Section 8 housing is being threatened, or if you need to figure out how to apply for veterans' benefits, you probably need a lawyer who specializes in government law, sometimes also called administrative law. Many of these lawyers specialize in only one area, like Social Security benefits, Native American law, or veterans' benefits. Other types of cases that are considered part of the Government category are cases involving the U.S. Constitution, like challenges to freedom of the press, freedom of religion, or freedom of speech, cases involving communication methods like the internet, radio, or satellite, and civil rights cases involving discrimination (you can also find lawyers for workplace discrimination cases in the Employment category of the Lawyer Directory).
As you'd expect, environmental lawyers work on cases that involve natural resources in some way, whether that means cases related to energy production and use, environmental regulation, or even hunting and fishing permits. Mineral rights, water rights, and hazardous waste issues are all included in the Environmental category. If you've bought property that you suspect might be contaminated by hazardous waste, or are a farmer involved in a conflict over water rights, you'll need to consult an environmental lawyer.
