I have met and exceeded the State Bar of California education requirement of 25 hours every three years by having taught or attended over 400 hours of continuing education in the past 5 years. Previous Employment Summary

Formerly a partner for 15 years with the law firm of Desmond, Miller, Desmond & Bartholomew, I co-founded the firm of Bartholomew & Wasznicky in 1989. Additionally, I am a retired captain in the United States Army Reserve, and I am also a licensed real estate broker.

Activities and Awards

I serve as Judge Pro Tem and as Arbitrator for the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Sacramento and County of El Dorado. I also service as fee arbitrator for the Sacramento County Bar Association.

I teach courses on divorce rights and divorce mediation for the Family Service Agency, and I also teach courses on divorce rights for the Center for Fathers and Families. I also have taught courses on divorce and divorce mediation at the Sacramento campus of National University. In addition, I am a frequent instructor for the continuing education of Certified Public Accountants having taught for over 19 years tax aspects of divorce.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It is important for clients to educate themselves as to the decisions that need to be made during the dissolution process.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes - Available to act as consulting lawyer to a client participating in mediation and for general consultations.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Limited, depends on the situation.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

In high school, I experienced the unfairness that sometimes effects people and saw two attorneys that were able to rectify those injustices. Ten years later, I became their partner.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I do extensive teaching, both to professionals and consumers, as well as regular meetings with my peers in family law, and complete extensive continuing education. All of these activities help me to be a better lawyer.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Since 1980, I have been a certified family law specialist and enjoy the interaction with clients.

What do you like best about your career?

What I like best is working with clients to achieve a respectful resolution in as positive manner as possible given the emotions that exists in divorce.

Tell us about your law firm:

Our firm consists of seven attorneys, six (plus) paralegals and three other team members. Our two senior paralegals have been with me for 27 and 20 years respectively.

What are your strengths and style?

I have the patience to understand and assist clients in a positive manner.

Determine the problems and moving quickly to the solutions stage.
