What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

In my opinion, clients cannot have too much information regarding legal issues which they are dealing with. The more "sophisticated" a client is, the more likely all issues will be thoroughly discussed and the client will be able to make an informed decision.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am happy to review documents prepared by clients. In my role as reviewer, it is paramount that I give my clients relevant advice and not suggest significant changes in language unless there is reason to do so. Rewriting a document so it says the exact same thing in my voice rather than my clients is not good counseling. I want to add value not send a large bill.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Depending upon the circumstances and the type of transaction, I am available to act as a counselor.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I became a lawyer, because I felt I could help persons with complex problems and help them protect their hard earned assets. As a lawyer, I feel that it is my duty to not "over lawyer" but to provide good solid advice to my clients so they can make informed decisions.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Prior to being in private practice, I was in-house counsel to a publicly traded company. The skills I developed in-house have helped me represent my clients in an economical and business fashion.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I chose to focus on real estate, because the issues are so relevant to people and businesses. Real estate in California is very complex and unless one spends a significant part of their day working in the field there are many areas where unsuspecting people risk significant liability.

What do you like best about your career?

I enjoy assisting clients with complex issues.

Tell us about your law firm:

My law partner George R. Walker has been practicing in Monterey, California for over 50 years. Mr. Walker is a wealth of knowledge and is a stable force in the Monterey County Bar.

What are your strengths and style?

I have the ability to work with a variety of clients and provide high quality legal services at reasonable rates. I am available to speak with clients most times during the day.

My style is to provide the highest quality legal services in the most efficient and cost effective manner. I am casually formal.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy golf, running, travel, skiing, and other outdoor activities.

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
