Criminal Law Specialist, State Bar of California
California State Courts, Eastern District of California Federal Court, California Supreme Court
Placer County Bar Association, State Bar of California
As a certified specialist in Criminal Law by the State Bar of California, I am required to devote a substantial part of my practice to criminal defense work including trials, contested hearings, writs and appeals. I attend over 20 hours of continuing education every year covering updates in cases ranging from DUI to Murder.
I have been a contributing writer to the Placer County Bar Association newsletter and served as Bar President in 2000. I have argued before the California Court of Appeal and California Supreme Court. I have been attorney of record in two published appellate decisions, People v. Sargent and People v. Brackett.
In People v. Albert Heredia, we successfully obtained a dismissal of all charges in a gang related drive by shooting case with life imprisonment exposure.
In People v. Elledge we won a motion to dismiss all charges in a case involving felony threats on a police officer. We have a proven record of not guilty verdicts in cases ranging from DUI to Serious Felonies. We have never lost a civil personal injury case at trial. Our recent successes include a $700,000 settlement against Round Table Pizza for a wrongful death caused by a delivery car.
A $300,000 settlement for a construction worker injured at a job site; and a $600,000 settlement for a school bus driver rear ended on the highway.

The Law Offices of Barry Zimmerman was started in 1994, in Placer County, California. Over the last 12 years, we have focused on representing individuals charged with crimes and individuals who are hurt and injured in the Placer, Sacramento, and Nevada County areas.
Prior to starting my own law firm in 1994, I was a Deputy Public Defender for the County of Placer from 1991 to 1994. Between 1988 to 1991, I was an associate attorney for the elite personal injury law firm of Friedman, Collard & Poswall in Sacramento, California. Between 1986 and 1988 I was a research attorney for the Sacramento Superior Court and a summer law clerk for the Hon. Lawrence Karlton, Federal District Court, Eastern District of California.
I am a pro tem judge in Placer County. I act as an arbitrator for Placer County and Nevada County.
I often encourage clients to handle minor matters on their own where it would be uneconomical to retain an attorney. I frequently educate clients about small claims court, restraining orders and minor traffic offenses.
I encourage clients to prepare factual summaries of their cases for my review. I often direct clients to judicial council forms for handling their own matters.
I am willing to educate clients about small claims court, restraining orders and minor traffic offenses.
To help individuals seek justice and level the playing field against the government, corporations, insurance companies and businesses.
My entire career has helped me to be a better human being and thus a better lawyer.
To help individuals who may be underdogs overcome seemingly more powerful odds.
Achieving a result that brings justice to my client is the best.
My legal assistant, Lori Burgess, has been with my office for the last 7 years. My attorney associate, Michael Dudley, has been handling criminal cases for my firm since July, 2003.
Hard work, dedication, preparation, and patience.
I pay personal attention to all aspects of your case.
I enjoy music, sports, and travel.
