Employment & Labor Relations
I represent all employees who have been mistreated at work, including government employees. I represent employees who have been wrongfully terminated, sexually harassed, discriminated against, denied proper minimum or overtime wages, or have suffered any injustice or unfairness from their employer or co-workers. I also negotiate severance agreements for employees whose employers are forcing them out.

I am constantly educating myself to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly changing field of employment law and often take more courses than the minimum required by the State Bar.
Yes, I am the sole author of numerous articles, including rules for drug testing employees, published in the Daily Journal.
Over the years I have helped employees collect millions of dollars that their employers have owed them for firing them, harassing them, discriminating against them, not paying proper minimum or overtime wages, and all other forms of mistreatment and breaches of contract. Each case is extremely important to me and I fight all out, whether it is for employees barely making minimum wage or for executives and professionals making six figures or more. I am not afraid to sue the biggest corporations in America and fight the largest law firms in California. I usually obtain a very favorable result for my clients.

Entering law school, I knew I wanted to fight for workers' rights, so I took virtually every employment and labor law course that Hastings offered. This provided me with a solid foundation of legal knowledge and practical skills to represent employees.

I began specializing in labor and employment law in 1987 and have taken to trial and won numerous cases and successfully settled many more. I started my own law firm in April 1996 and for over ten years have represented clients exactly the way I wanted and the way I would want an attorney to work for me -- with zeal, fire, courage, and determination to achieve the best possible result.
Before starting my own firm in 1996, I worked for a variety of small to medium firms specializing in labor and employment law. I discovered that I needed to establish my own firm so I could do precisely what I thought was best for my clients.
I occasionally volunteer for the Bar Association of San Francisco. It is an intake service where we find out if people have a case or not.
The best client is the one who knows and understands as much as possible about his or her legal issues.
I am always happy to review documents prepared by clients -- that's a big part of my job.
I have successfully coached many clients who have represented themselves.
It is the best way of using my knowledge and skills to help other people. For one thing, I saw my father suffer through 33 years of abuse and mistreatment as a bus driver, working hard, day in and day out, doing the best he could to provide for his family. Meanwhile, I saw that his employer couldn't care less about him. Employees need all the help they can get to win basic rights and fair treatment from their employers.
I learn something new from each case, each trial, and each negotiation I handle. It is called the "practice" of law because each new experience teaches me more and helps me be a better lawyer for my next client. As time goes on, I frequently have the experience of "having been there before" and knowing exactly what to do to help my clients.
The employer-employee dynamic has always been fascinating to me. There is always a lot of drama and emotion. There is a lot of "he said, she said." Sorting out the truth and obtaining justice from a swirling mass of conflicting stories keeps me on my toes.
My greatest satisfaction is in righting wrongs, fighting hard for justice, and collecting money for my clients to make their lives better. What I like least are employers and their attorneys who lie and hide the truth.
I am a sole practitioner who prides himself on giving careful and individualized attention to each of my clients. My clients know that when they hire me, I will perform every detail of their case myself, and I will not hand their work off to someone they've never met.
I fight with all my heart and mind for my clients. I have specialized in labor and employment law since 1987. I love helping my clients and making a difference in their lives.
I have gained enough experience since 1987 to know when to fight all out on all issues, when to pick and choose the battles, and when it is better to negotiate a victory. So, depending on the situation, I'm either a tough warrior or a smooth negotiator. With my clients, I am usually a relaxed, laid-back, careful listener.
I enjoy swimming, hiking, reading novels and short stories, watching movies and, of course, quality time with my family.
