Continuing Education

I attend more than the required hours in bankruptcy, and I speak at seminars to maintain my status as a specialist in bankruptcy law.

Example Cases

In most of my cases, my client will come to me with a house in foreclosure, unsecured debt with credit cards, and owing money to the IRS. By filing for bankruptcy, we save the family home, provide a payment plan for taxes and discharge the rest of the debt. The family is then able to keep their house, are in good standing with the IRS and no longer have any other debt.

Firm Focus and History

Originally, the firm was my father's. I started at the firm in 1977. The focus is and always has been on bankruptcy law and probate; we help people with their financial problems.

Activities and Awards

I have done pro bono work for the bankruptcy court and also I do fee arbitration for the Kern County Bar Association.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It's helpful for the client to have a general idea as to how bankruptcy works, but most often, having an attorney will make the process go smoothly and save money for the client in the long run. We will help anyone, regardless of whether they have educated themselves or not.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We do not encourage this; we would have to re-type them anyway.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

No

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

My father is an attorney and so is my grandfather; I also enjoy helping people.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I think having a business degree helps me along with just being knowledgeable about the world.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

When I joined my father's firm, he was doing a lot of bankruptcy and probate work. I tried other areas of law, but I didn't find them as enjoyable.

What do you like best about your career?

I like assisting people and helping with their problems. I feel a lot of satisfaction when clients come back and are so pleased that they are straightened out financially.

Tell us about your law firm:

The other partner in the firm is my brother-in-law, and we have staff who help with everything around the office.

What are your strengths and style?

I am a certified specialist, which means that I qualify to help people with all of their financial problems. I also have nearly 30 years of experience.

I am conservative, and a hard and efficient worker.

Family and sports.
