The more knowledgeable the client is, the more readily we can assist them. A significant part of our job is to assist the client in learning as much as possible about their rights and liabilities.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We are willing to do so, within the bounds of ethical considerations.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We are willing to do so within the bounds of ethical considerations.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I have a passion for advocacy and justice, and I enjoy using my skills to assist others.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

28 years of legal practice, mostly in the area of California workers' compensation law has given me a very strong basis for understanding the needs of clients in this area of law.

Prior to going to law school, I worked my way through college, serving as a shop steward and officer in the Machinists Union, so I can see more than one side of the story.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

From my first year of law school, I found this area of workers' compensation to be unique and fascinating. I soon developed a real expertise, including writing a USF Law Review article, which was nationally re-published, and which helped to set me on this path of specialization.

What do you like best about your career?

The ever-changing kaleidoscope of people and events and circumstances, and the opportunity to participate in fresh challenges all of the time is what I like best about my career.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am extremely fortunate to have very intelligent and skilled people assisting me. This is what enables us to operate efficiently with a small staff.

What are your strengths and style?

My strength and expertise is the ability to focus on a case and solve problems, reaching appropriate resolutions. I am not one to accept the status quo without looking at every possible avenue to benefit my client, within the bounds of ethical advocacy. At the same time, I enjoy, and value highly, my long-standing reputation for professional integrity and straight-shooting.

I am practical, pragmatic, with no nonsense or unnecessary bluster. I like to work with other skilled professionals to cut to the chase. I value my good reputation in the legal community for professional integrity and reasonableness.

Personal Interests:

Flying, especially using my aircraft on legal business; motorcycling, including cross-country and international trips; travel, especially with family; reading, mainly contemporary non-fiction, and regular exercise. I am a native San Franciscan.
