I do not have a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirement. However, I take various courses with MICPEL to keep myself updated on my various practice areas.
I have published two articles with the University of Baltimore Law Forum:
1. University of Baltimore Law Forum, Issue 33.1 - Atkins v. Virginia: Imposing the Death Penalty on Mentally Retarded Offenders is Cruel and Unusual Punishment Prohibited by the Eighth Amendment.
2. University of Baltimore Law Forum, Issue 33.2 - Medex v. McCabe: Incentive Payments are Wages Earned by an Employee and an Employee is Entitled to Recover Incentive Fees as Wages.
I assisted an elderly couple with a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Sadly, they had to surrender their home. The gentleman was quite nervous about going to a 341 meeting. However, his daughter thanked me for remaining so calm, explaining the procedure thoroughly, and making him feel so comfortable with the trustee and the procedure.
I also assisted another client with a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. After we filed the bankruptcy, my client was very nervous about the 341 meeting. She called me probably five times before the meeting. However, I believe in excellent service and returned her calls promptly to calm her fears. She received her discharge and thanked me for being so understanding and patient.

The Law Offices of Supriya M. Harding was started in April of 2009. An office was opened in Annapolis, Maryland to make it convenient for Baltimore Metro clients to meet with me. I believe in providing quality services at a reasonable cost to clients. I find that larger firms tend to charge large amounts of money for a basic bankruptcy when people are unable to afford it. I provide the services at reasonable costs so clients feel comfortable coming to an attorney for their legal needs.
My firm is focused on assisting clients with bankruptcy, estate planning, corporate and real estate matters. I believe in providing quality legal service at reasonable costs. I find that individuals find it difficult to retain large firms due to the high billable hourly rates. I can provide that high quality service at more reasonable rates.
I have large firm and corporate legal counsel experience. I was a staff attorney for Katten Muchin Rosenman from August of 2005 through October of 2006. I was a real estate associate for Gordon Feinblatt Rothman Hoffberger & Hollander LLC from October of 2006 through July of 2008. I worked at Prime Retail as Real Estate Counsel from July of 2008 through February of 2009. Prior to going to law school, I was a real estate and corporate paralegal at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr.
In law school, I participated in the Community Development Clinic. At the clinic, I assisted poverty-level clients with business formation and non-profit (501c3) issues.
I believe it is very important that clients educate themselves on legal issues. I try to give them information on my website about the legal issues in bankruptcy. I also thoroughly discuss the process and the law regarding the preparation and procedure of the bankruptcy. I believe that if they understand the legal process, they can properly educate themselves and determine whether they want to use an attorney or whether they want to try to proceed by themselves.
I am more than happy to review documents for clients to make sure they are proceeding in the right direction. I believe that if a client wants to save legal fees they can prepare at least an initial draft and I can review it to make sure that it meets Maryland law.
I am willing to coach a client who wants to represent themselves. However, I do like being with my clients during a legal proceeding which can be very stressful. I want to make sure that they remember the advice that I provide. I would be willing to lower my fees if the client is willing to take on some of the legal procedure for the case.
My grandfather was a lawyer. When I was in tenth grade, I went to India and saw my grandfather in his late 80s in court. He passed away when he was 96 years old and practiced law until one month before he passed away. I knew from the tenth grade that I wanted to make my grandfather proud and become a lawyer. I succeeded in my dream one year before he passed away. I am proud that my grandfather learned that I became a lawyer just like him before he passed.
I have worked in large firms before I became a solo practitioner. I worked a large amount of hours and know that being a solo practitioner requires a significant amount of commitment. I am used to working long hours and have learned that making myself available to my clients (even on my cell phone) makes me a more productive lawyer. I am able to answer my client's questions when there is an emergency and they are desperate for answers to their legal issues.
I chose real estate because I enjoyed my real estate classes at Stevenson University and the University of Baltimore School of Law. I have years of experience in all aspects of real estate law. I am a transactional lawyer by nature but do not mind doing a little bit of litigation. I chose real estate, corporate, estate planning and bankruptcy because they tend to include more drafting. I love drafting and I love closing transactions. I like to help people to meet their goals and I believe my practice areas allow me to do that because we are trying to get to a mutually acceptable solution to the legal issues.
I like the fact that I help people resolve complex legal issues. I also like the fact that clients trust me to give competent legal advice. I like to make potential clients feel comfortable with me so they can trust me and provide me with complete information so I can provide succinct and effective legal advice.
I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients deal directly with me. I have been to bankruptcy court and I hear lawyers calling out their clients' names because they have not met with the client. An assistant or paralegal has collected the information and the attorney is meeting his or her client for the first time. I believe that as an attorney, I should meet with you so you know who you are dealing with. I want a client to feel comfortable with me, that they can call me and talk to me about a legal question that is bothering them. I also want to be able to walk into court and shake their hand. I want to be able to talk to them openly and be able to know their lawyer personally.
I have a calming personality. Clients come in with significant legal issues that create chaos in their life and I am able to make them feel comfortable and calm about the situation. In addition, I have a personal style. I believe in being available for my clients. If they have a legal question, I want to be able to assist them in a timely manner.
I worked at large firms during my early career. Therefore, I have the knowledge to research problems, resolve legal issues, and close transactions from a large firm standpoint. I am able to provide the large firm services at a more reasonable cost to my clients.
I like to spend time with my three children and husband in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. In addition, I love to read, play golf, and snow ski. I am currently a Girl Scout leader for my daughter's troop and earned by Advanced Brown Belt in Karate.
