Example Cases

1. I represented a client under criminal investigation for using an alleged foreign trust. The IRS claimed that client had failed to pay approximately $5 million in taxes. After the three-year investigation, the IRS was persuaded not to indict the client.

2. I served as a defendants' tax expert at a criminal trial where the IRS charged defendants with 80+ counts of tax evasion, tax fraud, conspiracy, promotion of illegal tax shelters and etc. After a month-long trial the jury found defendants not guilty on all counts.

Firm Focus and History

I represent clients on a nationwide basis exclusively in the areas of tax advice and controversy, criminal tax defense, estate planning and IRS tax whistleblower reward matters, as well as Qui Tam/False Claims Act matters. I also represent plaintiffs in tax malpractice cases and serve as an expert in civil and criminal tax matters.

I moved to private practice in the summer of 2005 after working as a Senior Attorney for the Internal Revenue Service and as an Attorney-Advisor to the Chief Judge of the United States Tax Court. The firm has successfully aided hundreds of taxpayers in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service.

Previous Employment Summary

Prior to founding my own law firm, I was a Senior Attorney for the Internal Revenue Service and worked as an Attorney-Advisor to the Chief Judge of the United States Tax Court. In addition, I was a tax attorney for one of the largest national law firms, Bryan Cave LLP.

I work as an Adjunct Professor at St. Louis University, teaching Tax Administrative Procedure and U.S. Tax Court procedure. I am a frequent speaker for continuing legal education courses for tax attorneys and Certified Public Accountants. I frequently serve as an expert witness regarding tax law matters.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I believe in justice and our judicial system. I enjoy helping people and advocating for their rights. It gives me tremendous professional satisfaction.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Learning tax procedure while working for the Chief Judge of the United States Tax Court and the IRS Office of the Chief Counsel gave me the experience and confidence to be a better lawyer. My style is to listen to the client, understand the client's cause and resolve it by making it my own. I put my head and heart into my work.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

While in law school, I found tax classes to be the most fascinating and complicated. I enjoyed the intellectual challenge and decided to focus on tax. Every case that I win confirms that I made the right choice.

What do you like best about your career?

I enjoy working with my clients and making their cause my own. Legal work provides me with a feeling of accomplishment, self-esteem and satisfaction.

Hourly Rates

$200 to $400, depending on the complexity of the case.

Free Initial Consultation?

The initial consultation costs $100 for the first thirty minutes. If the client engages the firm within 30 days, credit of $100 will be given to client towards future legal fees.

Typical Retainer

The retainer ranges from $2,000 to $25,000.
