If you have been charged with a crime or are currently under investigation for a crime, you probably have countless questions and concerns about what you should do and what action needs to be taken. It is critical that you know what your rights are. The best decision you can make is to pick up the phone and call an attorney. It doesn't have to be me, but do make that call. Criminal cases require a proactive, aggressive defense strategy during all stages of the proceedings, and as your attorney that is exactly what I will deliver.
My office is located in downtown Indianapolis next to the City-County Building. Staples, Barton, and Jones is an association of attorneys who share office space and expenses. I travel frequently to the surrounding counties, so setting up a free initial consultation at a convenient location can be done quickly and easily. I worked in the Marion County Prosecutor's Office for five years on crimes ranging from juvenile cases, misdemeanors, Class D felony crimes, major felony crimes, and homicides. During law school I participated in several internships: the Public Defender's Office in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Public Defender's Office in Des Moines, Iowa, and the United States Attorney's Office in Iowa. I also practiced criminal defense for a year in the Drake Law School criminal defense clinic.
Mock Trial and Moot Court participant.
Feel free to investigate issues on your own if you wish, but doing so is not necessary as I have access to all of the requisite legal research tools. I am happy to discuss any questions you have in this regard. The following sites are free resources for legal research and court information: Indiana Courts Online, FindLaw, United States Supreme Court Opinions.
I am happy to review and discuss any documents you have relating to your case.
Criminal charges are a serious matter that can have a long-term impact on your life. The best option is to retain an attorney.
Being charged with a crime is a stressful and emotionally difficult process to go through. The key to dealing with these tough issues is to know exactly what is going to happen as the matter proceeds forward, what your rights are, and what the possible outcome of the case is going to be. My goal is to provide the answers you need and to aggressively and proactively defend your case.
During my tenure as a deputy prosecutor I gained extensive jury trial and court trial experience. I have studied or worked in the field of criminal law for nearly a decade.
Being accused of a crime can be a devastating experience and I find fulfillment in helping people confront and ultimately move past their involvement with the criminal justice system.
The United States is among a small minority of countries that believes in the principle that everyone is innocent until proven guilty and it is a privilege to live and work in such a system. Know your rights. Exercise them.
Staples, Barton, and Jones is an association of attorneys, not a partnership, comprised of four former deputy prosecutors and a skilled legal assistant.
I am committed to aggressively defending your case and working with you to develop a winning strategy. Proactive representation is my personal style. I maintain good contact with my clients and return all phone calls promptly.
