Real Estate
Clients who are looking for personal representation from an experienced attorney, provided in a cost-effective, practical manner. I handle residential and commercial real estate transactions across Connecticut.
CT, Dec 1990
Bar Number: 402699
Connecticut and U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut.
Connecticut Bar Association and New Haven County Bar Association.
I regularly attend seminars from the New Haven County Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association in my areas of practice to keep current with the latest developments in real estate law, business law and legal technology.
I recently represented a young couple purchasing their first home in the New Haven, Connecticut area. At first they seemed reluctant to ask questions, maybe they thought that they would be bothering me or asking 'dumb' questions, but I encouraged them to feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or concerns they had. By the time of their house closing, we had spoken and emailed many times, and they were much more comfortable closing on their house because they had a full understanding of what was happening. I consider that to be a very successful case and strive for such an outcome with all my clients. People should not be afraid to talk to their lawyer or feel intimidated. Most all of my closings are handled on a flat fee basis, so there is no extra charge for calling more often!

I chose to start my own law firm in Hamden and Fairfield, Connecticut to be able to provide personal representation to my clients in a cost-effective manner. I represent all clients myself. I am readily available to my clients by phone, in person, or through email and the internet. I maintain an active blog, Twitter account and profile on the legal site Avvo, which includes reviews of my services from prior clients. For more information please review my website.
My firm represents individual and small business clients. My real estate law focus is on residential real estate and small commercial real estate transactions (such as the purchase, sale and refinance of real estate, leases, landlord-tenant). I also represent small businesses on a variety of legal matters (real estate transactions, leases, business formation, business acquisitions and sales, contract review, contract disputes, collections, evictions, landlord-tenant) in New Haven and Fairfield Counties of Connecticut. As part of my real estate law practice, I regularly represent individuals on the purchase, sale and refinance of residential real estate in Connecticut.
I have worked in large and small law firms, as corporate counsel to a mortgage lender, and as title counsel for a title insurance company. Most of my legal experience has been in the areas of real estate, business law, corporate law and titles and title insurance. To read more about my background and experience as a real estate attorney and business attorney, please visit my website.
I am active in many organizations and activities in my hometown of Hamden, CT, such supporting our school system and protecting our open space.
I appreciate clients who have tried to learn about and research the law applicable to their situation. However, this is not a substitute for legal advice from an experienced Connecticut real estate or business attorney. You may want to review the information I have provided in my real estate law blog or on my website.
I am willing to review documents prepared by clients, however, it may be more cost-effective for standard documents for me to use a document I am familiar with rather than edit a client's document.
I do not coach clients who wish to represent themselves except in very limited circumstances and in accordance with all applicable ethical rules. I am willing to talk to potential clients to assess if they need a lawyer or may be able to handle the matter without legal counsel.
My reason for becoming a lawyer was to help people. I get my greatest reward from helping people accomplish their goals, such as purchasing their first house or starting a business.
My extensive real estate and business experience allows me to provide honest and direct advice and counsel. Being the father of three children and the owner of a small business, I understand the challenges facing many people today. I have structured my law practice to be able to offer cost-effective legal services to individuals needing a Connecticut real estate attorney.
My areas of practice allow me to work directly with clients. I find working with people and helping them solve their problems and achieve their goals to be very rewarding.
The thing I like best is being a solo practice lawyer, so I can set my own fees, select my own clients, and organize my practice in the most beneficial way for me and for my clients.
I am a solo practitioner and all client contact is through me. I enjoy speaking to my clients directly and from day one, rather than simply meeting them at the closing as some lawyers do.
My strengths are my listening skills, my ability to negotiate, and my ability to prevent a potentially difficult situation from escalating out of control. I keep my clients' needs foremost, and I do not get caught up in a 'battle' for no purpose.
I am active in many affairs in my hometown of Hamden, Connecticut. I am active in my children's education, in helping to protect open space and recreational areas, and in protecting Hamden's neighborhoods. I am active in many online legal forums where I enjoy providing my thoughts and ideas and having legal and political discussions.

I handle real estate closings (purchase, sale and refinance) on a fixed fee basis, disclosed and agreed to upfront. A closing should not be the time for a surprise about the fee! Other matters can also usually be done on a fixed fee basis, disclosed and agreed to prior to the commencement of the representation, and agreed to in writing. Discounts are available for clients mentioning that they found me on Nolo.com. Please contact me for a fee quote on any service, including a quote and explanation of the closing costs including legal fees and title insurance for a real estate closing.
$175 to $225 depending on the situation.
Free initial consultation, sufficient to understand the nature of the problem and decide on the scope of the representation or if the client and potential matter are a good fit for my style and philosophy.
Retainer depends on the nature of the matter. No retainer for real estate closings.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
