Firm Focus and History

Our firm prefers to focus on the areas of business and franchise law. We are a small firm and like to be able to work with our clients closely in order to effectively meet their needs. We perform services which include, but are not limited to, drafting business contracts, drafting franchise disclosure documents, evaluating franchise disclosure documents, and registering trademarks and copyrights.

Our firm was created in 2009 out of the passion of two friends from law school who wanted to have a closer relationship with their clients. We wanted to remain true to our personal and professional ethics while being able to represent our clients as best as possible.

Previous Employment Summary

I come from a purely legal background. While in high school, I worked as an administrative assistant for five and a half years in a personal injury law firm. Upon graduation from law school, I worked as a family and civil litigation attorney, prior to opening Shelton & Power, LLC.

Lynne Shelton has a business consulting and franchising/business opportunity background. Since the early 1990s, Ms. Shelton has assisted small businesses in their expansion efforts. Her expertise lies across many industries, from restaurants to interior designers and even to gold mines.

Activities and Awards

Pro Bono work for Legal Aid and Pro Bono work for Delta Theta Phi International Law Fraternity.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I think it is important and in the client's best interests to educate him or herself on legal issues. We feel, as a firm, that our position is to educate our clients so that they can make the best decision possible for their situation, which is why we are looking to the future to be able to participate in speaking events on intellectual property, business law, and franchise law.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We are more than willing to review documents prepared by clients. We know that many clients attempt to draft their documents, and many are very successful at it. However, we are always available to review documents for our clients to make sure the document is complete, accurate, and complies with all legal requirements.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We enjoy educating clients so that they may help themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I decided to become an attorney while in high school. I took a Court Procedures class where I learned to litigate different matters. After taking the Court Procedures class, I spoke with attorneys who were friends of the family and learned to talk easily with them. I was blessed to get a job with a great personal injury law firm where I learned the ins and outs of a law firm which spurred my interest even more.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My experience in the legal field makes me the lawyer I am today and coupled with my partners business and legal experience, we are the best attorneys for our clients that we can be.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

We chose our primary area of practice because we both have small business backgrounds and we enjoy helping small businesses because we understand that the world of today was built upon small businesses.

What do you like best about your career?

I enjoy the practice of law. I enjoy the fact that I get to interact with different types of clients which makes me a better person and better advocate all while helping clients that are truly wanting to make their businesses better.

Tell us about your law firm:

My partner and I work solely with each other. We make ourselves personally available to all of our clients because we know that our clients' problems do not exist solely between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

What are your strengths and style?

Our strengths revolve around our drafting and negotiation abilities. Both of our attorneys have strong drafting skills as evidenced by our publications and previous work. Our negotiation skills are above par as shown by our business experience and moot court and trial team experience in law school.

Personal Interests:

My personal interests are spending time with my wife and family, taking care of my yard, playing golf, reading, and bike riding.
