Continuing Education

I attend seminars and workshops on consumer and business bankruptcy around the United States. I also attend seminars and workshops on current foreclosure defense strategies.

Example Cases

In one case, a single mother owed substantially more on her home mortgage than the home was worth. By filing bankruptcy, she was able to completely eliminate the second mortgage on her home, which brought her mortgage payments down to a reasonable amount. She was able to keep her home.

In another case, a Melbourne family man purchased a property as an investment for his retirement. After the market crashed, he was left with a property that was worth substantially less than what he owed on the property and is trapped in an interest only adjustable rate mortgage. Our Melbourne Bankruptcy Lawyer is working to transfer the deed on the investment property to his mortgage company in exchange for forgiveness of his debt (a deed-in-lieu of foreclosure). Our Melbourne Bankruptcy Lawyer is also working to eliminate the client's tax liabilities which would otherwise result from the deed-in-lieu foreclosure.

Firm Focus and History

The Bowin Law Group is a Melbourne, Florida, bankruptcy and foreclosure defense law firm, dedicated to helping individuals and families throughout Brevard County who are looking for relief from their debts and from the harassment of their creditors. Beau Bowin is a Melbourne Bankruptcy lawyer who has represented some of the largest Fortune 500 companies throughout the United States, including Winn-Dixie Stores in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filed in 2005. Each of the large companies Beau has represented has one thing in common - they can each afford the very best attorneys to represent their interests. All too often, however, the small business person or the family just trying to make ends meet cannot afford high quality legal representation to protect their rights.

Beau established the Bowin Law Group to ensure that families and small businesses in Melbourne and all of Brevard County have access to the same high caliber representation typically reserved for clients with large pocketbooks.

Whether you're a family filing for bankruptcy or a small business in a dispute with a vendor, the Brevard bankruptcy attorneys at the Bowin Law Group will fight to protect your rights and to achieve the best legal result possible for your situation.

Activities and Awards

I am a committee member of the Bankruptcy Judicial Liaison Committee, Business Law Section of Florida Bar. The committee is comprised of the bankruptcy practitioners and judges from across the state and it meets several times a year to discuss developments in bankruptcy law and proposed legislative revisions.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It is important for clients to educate themselves as much as possible on their legal issues. The more informed the client is, the better able they are to determine their legal options. As part of their education, clients should take advantage of free consultations with a Brevard Bankruptcy Lawyer to learn about options the clients might not otherwise find on their own. An experienced Melbourne Bankruptcy Attorney can advise you whether a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy is right for you. If your home is or will be in foreclosure, get a free consultation with a Melbourne Foreclosure Defense Lawyer to find out what options are available to save your home from foreclosure.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am always willing to review documents prepared by clients.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I would consider it in some situations. Sometimes attorney involvement may increase the adversarial nature of whatever dispute the client faces. Helping a client to resolve the issue without an attorney's active involvement may produce the best result for the client. The Bankruptcy and Foreclosure Defense Lawyer at the Bowin Law Group will advise you whether it is best to leave the attorneys out of the mix.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I was a big Matlock fan growing up. Later, I found out the law could be used to help good people out of bad situations. It is a great feeling to help a person overcome adversity and give them a sense that there is a bankruptcy lawyer in Melbourne on their side that will fight to protect them and their family or business. I view each representation as chance to restore the Brevard County people's confidence and trust in the legal system.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I've spent my career working for the largest and most prestigious law firms in Florida and the country. In doing so, I've learned from the very best attorneys in the business. Unfortunately, most of these attorneys only represent large corporations and high net worth individuals because they are the only ones that can afford their attorney fees. In my own family, located in Melbourne, I have seen how this disparity can have severe consequences for people who just can't afford an attorney to fight for their rights.

In my practice, I draw upon legal experience I've gained working on some of the largest cases in the country and apply that to the cases I take for individuals and small businesses in Melbourne and Brevard. Working for a fraction of what large businesses can afford to pay, I hope to level the playing field for families and small businesses in Melbourne, Palm Bay and throughout Brevard County.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I like the challenge that bankruptcy law presents. It is a specialty area that requires expertise and knowledge in many areas of law. It is important to retain a lawyer that specializes in bankruptcy, rather than one that dabbles in bankruptcy law now that they can make some money on it in this bad economy.

When handled by an experienced Melbourne bankruptcy lawyer, a bankruptcy can provide much needed relief to a financially burdened person or business in Brevard. I enjoy helping people in Brevard get back on their feet and regain their financial peace of mind, which in this economic climate is difficult to come by.

What do you like best about your career?

Helping people in Melbourne, Palm Bay and all of Brevard County who need a qualified and experienced Melbourne bankruptcy lawyer or foreclosure defense lawyer.

Tell us about your law firm:

The staff at the Bowin Law Group is committed to serving families and businesses in Brevard County. Our staff is friendly and compassionate and always strives to accommodate our client's busy schedules. We understand that many people who come to our office have never been involved in a legal proceeding. We make every effort to put them at ease and to guide them through the legal process. Our clients can expect to speak directly with a local Melbourne attorney, in person or on the phone. If the attorney is not available at the time a client calls or stops by the office, the attorney will contact the client as soon as he is available.

What are your strengths and style?

I am a skilled litigator and negotiator. When at all possible, I try to resolve disputes without court involvement. This approach is always less expensive to the client and usually leads to better results. In the event litigation is necessary to resolve a dispute, I have the experience and willingness to fight for my clients rights in court. Because I was born and raised in Melbourne, Florida, I take special pride in serving the families and businesses in Melbourne, Palm Bay, Cocoa, Indialantic, and all of Brevard County.

Personal Interests:

I am a huge Miami Dolphins fan. I am also a member of the Brevard County Seminoles Club. Although it has been a while, I intend to reunite myself with surfing in the near future. Now that I left the big firms to start my own practice in my home town, I plan to spend a lot more time at Melbourne Beach, Indialantic Beach, and Cocoa Beach. I also enjoy stuffing my face with Bizzaro pizza and sandwiches from Yannis' Deli.
