I helped a client transition from being the key partner/owner and landlord for a business to a successfully retired businessman who sold the real estate on a tax-free basis, via a charitable remainder trust, which provided both a current income tax deduction and allowed for the purchase of life insurance for his family as a "wealth replacement" vehicle would which not be subject to estate/inheritance taxes.
In another matter, I helped structure and document a business success plan for a client allowing for a family business to remain in the family while providing for family members who were not involved in the day to day operation of the company.

Harris Law Offices represents businesses, their owners, professional practices, non-profit organizations and individuals. Our goal is to provide practical, timely and cost-effective advice to our clients with respect to business transactions, tax and estate planning, business succession planning, wills and trusts, contract drafting and negotiation, financing issues, entity formation, real estate transactions, and related matters. We believe in providing an integrated and coordinated approach to our clients' legal problems with the result that a comprehensive plan of action is developed with a view to addressing the full range of our clients' legal issues.
Harris Law Offices was established in 1994 by Ken Harris following his association with several large and well respected law firms located in Philadelphia and the Southern New Jersey region. It was formed with the goal of providing small and middle-market companies, entrepreneurs, professional practices, non-profit organizations, their owners and officers and individuals with access to the expertise and experience associated with large law firms in a more cost effective and personalized fashion. We want to be a trusted advisor for our clients and be available to answer their questions whenever they call. Ken handles all matters personally so there is no delegation of work or responsibilities to less experienced persons or someone unfamiliar with the client.
Who's Who in American Law, New Jersey Super Lawyer, Closely Held Business 2005, 2006.
Clients should understand the legal issues that confront them so that they can act appropriately and understand the pros and cons of their actions. I encourage my clients to be informed about the issues confronting them so that they can make better decisions. However, attorneys devote themselves to understanding particular areas of the law and how to deal with situations involving legal issues. Accordingly, clients should realize that there are limits on the level of expertise and knowledge that can be obtained through a short period of self-education.
I am perfectly willing to review client prepared documents. However, I am equally willing to inform them when I think those documents require editing and/or are not appropriate for their intended purpose.
I do not do any litigation, so I would not attempt to advise a client who wanted to represent him or herself.
I believe that I am an excellent problem solver and also have the ability to analyze matters from different perspectives, so that I can present both the pros and cons of a course of action to my clients. Additionally, having been in practice for over 30 years, I have been involved with numerous and different situations so I have often encountered a similar situation and can provide insight as to how it might be addressed.
I think my experience as a Naval Officer on board ship as well as a Navy JAGC attorney taught me how to make quick decisions in pressure situations and, at the same time, to learn when it was appropriate not to rush into a decision.
My clients choose it for me. Initially, I was a tax lawyer providing tax and estate planning advice and preparing documents related to that type of work. My clients then came to me and asked for assistance with commercial/transactional matters such as forming a corporation or limited liability company, starting a business, buying or selling real estate, buying/selling a business. As the frequency of this increased I shifted my focus to providing advice and counsel to business owners and individuals on matters that impacted them on a daily basis, their jobs/business, and keeping the money they earned, and helping them plan for their and their family's future.
Meeting new people and helping them solve their problems.
I am a solo practitioner so when a client calls I answer the phone and they deal directly with me from setting up the first appointment to the conclusion of the representation. My typical client is someone I have represented for a minimum of 10 years.
I believe that I am an excellent problem solver and also have the ability to analyze matters from different perspectives, so that I can present both the pros and cons of a course of action to my clients.
