Continuing Education

I attend continuing legal education courses offered by the Oklahoma Bar Association as well as the American Bar Association. I mainly attend the courses that pertain to estate planning, commercial law, family law, and business law.

Example Cases

I have seen several estate plans where one spouse is left administering the estate when the deceased spouse kept the finances. In other words, the surviving spouse has no idea what to do and that left him vulnerable to undue influence by family, friends and strangers. In one particular case, both spouses agreed that the wife was quite uncomfortable having the responsibility of administration if the husband were to die first. To avoid this problem, we left the husband in control if the wife were to predecease, but left the eldest son with the responsibility of administration if the husband died first. Although anything can happen, the couple was quite confident that their son would behave appropriately and not try to take advantage of his mother. Further, we took away the wife's ability to revoke or alter the personal trust if the husband were to die first, to make it harder for someone to pressure the wife into taking money or property from the trust and using that property for their interest and not the interest of the wife.

In another case, I helped a client decide between a limited liability company, a regular "C" corporation and a sole proprietorship. After discussing with the client exactly what she wanted to do and what her goals were, I recommended a limited liability company to give her the flexibility of a sole proprietorship, but with the protection of limited liability that comes with a regular "C" corporation without the hassle of double taxation and issuing stock.

Firm Focus and History

Schneiter Law, PLLC is focused on providing high quality legal services in the areas of estate planning, commercial law, and business law/formation, at affordable prices to Oklahomans through the convenience of the internet. Now, instead of the hassle of calling a law firm, setting an appointment, confirming the appointment and then driving to the appointment, you can contact us over the internet any time, any day. No appointments are necessary.

We will contact you as soon as we are notified of your registration on our virtual law office website. (All confidential communications will be conducted through the virtual law office's secure website and not through email or other mode of communication.)

Again, our focus is providing you, the client, with convenient, high quality legal services at affordable prices.

I established Schneiter Law, PLLC in January of 2009 when I saw an unmet need in Oklahoma for high quality legal services offered over the internet at affordable prices. To date, the firm has helped many clients achieve their small business and estate planning goals. We are one of the few pioneering law firms offering our services completely online and one of the first in Oklahoma.

Previous Employment Summary

I have recently been hired by the Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma as an adjunct professor teaching commercial law to energy management undergraduates and masters of accounting graduate students. I have worked for the West Law Firm in Shawnee since November of 2008 helping clients on a variety of legal issues particularly in the areas of estate planning, probate, commercial law, and personal injury. I have worked in the Equity Research division of Jefferies & Co. in New York City. And for 3 years, I worked in operations management for several banks in both Shawnee and Norman.

Activities and Awards

I have been actively involved with the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for the past three years in Norman, OK at the Norman Public Library.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I think that it is essential for clients to educate themselves on legal issues in order to understand what it is they and the attorney are discussing. This does not mean that clients have to spend countless hours reading and learning, but that by having a general, basic understanding of the law makes the entire process more efficient and clients do not get confused and flustered easily.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am quite willing and happy to review documents prepared by clients, although it does not necessarily provide noticeable savings for the client rather than for me to draft the document.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Schneiter Law, PLLC does not represent clients in court nor is the firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves. In fact, the firm recommends that no client represents himself or herself but that the client retains an attorney in all legal matters.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I have always wanted to help people and I realized that the best way for me to help others was to help them through my knowledge of the law.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I would say that my experience in banking operations prior to attending graduate school makes me a better lawyer because I learned invaluable lessons on how to interact with people that many lawyers do not receive, know or understand.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I chose estate planning because after helping my grandmother with her will, I realized how important it is to ensure that a client's wishes will be carried out upon death and to ensure that probate runs as smoothly as possible. I chose business and commercial law because I am a business-oriented person and in law, it is hard to understand business and commercial law without an understanding of business and economics. Finally, I chose taxation because it is inseparable from both estate planning and business; many people and many estates have to pay taxes.

What do you like best about your career?

What I like best about being an attorney is helping people find tangible solutions to legal problems that arise during life.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, so all clients deal directly with me.

What are your strengths and style?

My strengths consist of my attention to detail, but at the same time, my ability to see the big picture; my communication skills; and my ability to empathize with people. My style is a mixture of both focus and fun. Although I am an easy going person, I do know when it is time to focus in to get the job done.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy traveling to new places (and old), tennis, the outdoors, hiking, bike riding, and getting to know new people.
