I attend many seminars on legal issues to stay current with the law. I also continue my legal education through the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars and attend bar meetings to better serve my clients. I think it is important to continue learning about any subject throughout life.
Plaintiff v. Landlord in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee at Knoxville: I represented the landlord in a lawsuit against him. The plaintiff alleged he violated the Fair Housing Act (FHA). I represented the landlord in general sessions court when he evicted her for not paying rent. My client won at trial and the tenant appealed to a higher court, the circuit court. We were again victorious. The tenant then filed another lawsuit in federal court alleging my client sexually harassed her. I got the case dismissed.
State of Tennessee v. Defendant: The state alleges that my client sold cocaine and is guilty of a felony. After a jury trial, my client was found not guilty of the alleged sell.
State of Tennessee v. Defendant: The state alleged that my client was guilty of aggravated assault because he threatened someone with a weapon. The charge was dismissed and I also moved the court to return the weapons.
Wrongful Death/Probate Case: I represented the Estate of the person killed by a negligent driver, including the wrongful death lawsuit and for probate. I demanded the insurance limits and got the Medicare lien released.

We focus on our clients. Family law litigation, criminal defense trials, personal injury lawsuits, and estate probate are the primary areas of experience. We also prepare wills and trusts, and handle landlord-tenant disputes, contract issues, business law matters, guardianships, conservatorships, and serve as general counsel for many other clients.
Our office opened in Newport, Tennessee in 2006. The office is still located in the historic downtown area and across from the Cocke County Courthouse. Our office now represents both individual and corporate clients every day. We have litigated cases in Cocke, Jefferson, Sevier, Hamblen, Grainger, Blount and Knox County courtrooms. We have also served our clients in matters in throughout the state.
I began my legal career as an associate in the Law Office of Rebecca D. Slone in Dandridge, Tennessee. Prior to that, I was a law clerk at two law firms in Memphis, Tennessee. I learned about personal injury and medical malpractice at Rosenblum & Reisman. I gained knowledge of civil procedure and criminal law while at Scruggs, Scruggs & Associates.

It is important for everyone to educate themselves and be knowledgeable about the legal issues that concern them. I educate my clients about the laws that will affect their case so that they will be more informed. The more my clients know about their case and the legal issues that affect them results in better decisions.
I am always available to review documents during a consultation. Once I am retained, there should be no need for my clients to prepare their own documents. My staff and I will prepare all documents that are necessary, but I am always willing to assist my clients in any way possible.
I would advise everyone to follow the adage that "a person who represents him or herself has a fool for a client." Legal services should be affordable and available to everyone. We will work with you to make arrangements to ensure that you receive the services you require.
I want to work doing something I enjoy. I respected and considered many careers and professions, but I could never imagine working at any other job. I enjoy helping people and after I became a lawyer, I was able to help clients with their legal problems. Practicing law with personal attention to my clients is what I strive for and love. That's why I am still a lawyer.
All experience in life makes a person a better lawyer. Law school taught me how to analyze a case from an attorney's perspective, but learning from experienced lawyers has helped me the most. I clerked at several law firms for great attorneys that taught me a lawyer needs one thing? a client.
I wanted to serve clients in the area I grew up and give legal services to people in East Tennessee. Estates, wills, family law, criminal defense, and personal injury practice are the most helpful areas of law to the people I want to serve. I also have a vested interest in these areas because they affect me.
I like being able to counsel my client into making the best decision. As a litigator, I can advocate for their decisions and demands in the courtroom. One afternoon an elderly lady came to the office and wanted to see a lawyer. She received a letter from the social security administration, but she did not understand the letter because she could not read. I was able to stop what I was working on and simply read the letter to her.
I am a general practitioner and I have two assistants to serve my clients. All my clients deal directly with me, but my team works together for them.
I am a strong advocate for my clients and always keep their needs first. I work hard to prepare my client's case and I want my client's involvement. I prefer to analyze my client's case and advise them on all possibilities.
I enjoy my job, but when I take time off from the office, I do anything that prohibits telephone use. I ski, swim, and fish for relaxation.
Sandy Jenkins is my legal assistant and Lisa Overholt is my office manager.
