Firm Focus and History

Olea LLP offers online clients many legal services including: estate planning, wills and trusts, small business set-up, contract and document review, legal research and family law services including: parenting plans, separation agreements, divorces and name changes. Olea LLP is not a 'forms' website. We are licensed attorneys who practice law through our secure online law office. All inquires made through this website will be answered personally by Olea lawyers, and all legal services will be performed by licensed Washington State attorneys. Quality and confidentiality will never be compromised.

Olea LLP was established at the beginning of 2009. We are one of the first virtual law practices in the country and the first firm in Washington State to practice exclusively online. Charlene and I are the two lawyers in this firm and our goals for our practice are similar although our talents and skills vary in many complimenting ways.

Previous Employment Summary

I returned to Washington, my home state, and became licensed to practice law as a member of the Washington State Bar in 2008. I have worked with many types of organizations from community groups, Global Exchange and the Ella Baker Center in California, to policy organizations, National Employment Law Project in New York and the League of Women Voters of Washington, to the more traditional law firm, Center for Justice in Spokane, WA. This diverse background informs my holistic approach to the practice of law. I look forward to working with and learning from my clients as we navigate legal issues together.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Part of my goal as a lawyer at Olea LLP is to help people educate themselves about legal issues. When clients educate themselves I think they ask better questions because they have delved deeper into an issue. I like working with clients who want to know as much about their legal issue as possible because they are engaged and willing to work alongside their attorney to resolve the problem. Olea LLP was founded with the purpose of not only providing affordable and accessible legal services but also with the aim to educating non-lawyers about legal issues that affect them. We encourage our clients and blawg readers to empower themselves by becoming their own advocates.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

At Olea LLP we are open to reviewing client prepared documents. However, since we did not draft the documents ourselves, the extent of our services in this area only include ensuring that any forms or documents are filled out correctly. With respect to wills and trusts, our intake forms for clients requesting these services are very extensive and without this information in front of us it would be very difficult to review a self-made will or trust.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Providing limited representation is something we would consider although we can only make that assessment after a review of a case and on a case by case basis.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I became a lawyer because I like helping people solve problems. I also wanted to provide more access to lawyers. More and more often these days people do not have easy access to legal services and our whole justice system suffers because of this lack of access.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have had the most success when I listen to people first and speak second. While this is not always the quickest, easiest style it has always lead me to a better understanding of people and their problems which I think makes me a better lawyer, not to mention a better person.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

All of the areas of law we practice at Olea are areas where if people take advantage of our services and prepare for the future they can substantially reduce the risk of future legal problems. We like to think that we are providing the ounce of prevention that many people need to stay out of a pound's worth of legal problems. We are dedicated to the virtual law office model and the areas in which we practice best suit this model.

What do you like best about your career?

Like I said before, I got into this business to help people solve problems. When I can help people understand their problem, give them hope that there is a solution out there and that it's achievable I feel like I've done a good job.

Tell us about your law firm:

Charlene and I are partners at Olea LLP and very good friends. We are the only people that work for Olea right now. That means that all our clients deal directly with me or Charlene, who are both dedicated attorneys.

What are your strengths and style?

I am an empathetic listener and I try to understand the roots of a problem before I try to find a solution. I think this ensures that I understand the whole picture before I delve into specific details. I am passionate about the law and dedicated to my work.

Personal Interests:

I love doing anything outdoors so I ski, go backpacking, mountain biking, and surfing, depending on the season. I love being outside in the garden; my specialties include mindless weeding and planting flowers and berries. I also love to read. On a rainy day (which happens frequently in Olympia) you will likely find me in a chair reading a book in my spare time next to a cup of tea.

Foreign Languages

I speak passable Spanish. Charlene Quincey, my partner, speaks passable French and a little Italian.

Fixed-Price Services and Fees

At Olea we like to give our clients peace of mind by providing a quote for services before we undertake the work. Legal services are often not obtained by individuals for fear that it will cost too much. Although at times fees may vary depending on the complexity of the legal service requested, we are very flexible and will work with a client to create a payment plan that works for them.

Hourly Rates

$150.

Free Initial Consultation?

Yes, a client is free to register on our website and contact an attorney with a question for services. This communication or initial contact does not create an attorney client relationship. Only after an attorney has performed a conflict check, has agreed to take the case, the client has been provided a quote for services, and has accepted the terms of service, will a relationship be formed.

Typical Retainer

No.
