I have taught continuing education courses on trial practice techniques, and I always exceed my continuing legal education hours.
I have published business advisories on the duty of a used car dealer to disclose latent defects in a car and also on the subject of how businesses can avoid antitrust problems.
(1) State of Alaska v. Johnson Nissan, Inc. In this five week trial, I proved that the auto dealer had committed 22 violations of law in failing to disclose defective conditions in vehicles, and I recovered full restitution for all victims.
(2) State of Alaska v. Suburban Propane. This case was a class action where I recovered $4.5 million in restitution to propane costumers who had been overcharged due to a major antitrust violation.

I represent client in all of the following areas:
I have been practicing law in the public and private sectors for more than 25 years. I am an experienced trial attorney, and take a personal interest in each of my cases. I have been in private practice for 15 years, and have previously served as a Deputy District Attorney; an Assistant Attorney General; and a City Attorney. I currently operate a solo law practice were I assist clients in the areas of bankruptcy, debt collections, consumer protection, general litigation and personal injury, including Mesothelioma.
I am an experienced bankruptcy attorney, specializing in personal bankruptcies under Chapters 7, 12 and 13. Earlier in my career, I served as a Deputy District Attorney for 5 years, and tried all kinds of cases from misdemeanors to murder. I was an Assistant Attorney General for 10 years, and worked in administrative law, general litigation, unfair trade practices (including antitrust), and consumer protection. In private practice, I have litigated in a number of different courts and on a number of different subjects, including personal injury, contract disputes, and warranty claims.
I always encourage clients to become familiar with the law, so that they will understand the proceedings and be better able to assist me in representing them. My website has substantial information that allows clients to understand the circumstances of their cases, and the rules that apply to them. I am always available to discuss cases with my clients and to answer their questions.
I am always willing to review documents prepared by clients, and I am always on the lookout for ways to save the client money on legal fees by helping in the document review and preparation.
I am happy to coach clients. In the current economic market, I have assisted numerous clients in preparation of their defense to debt collection actions, so that they can defend cases themselves, with professional documents on their side.
Being a lawyer allows me to help people who are in difficult situations. That is personally gratifying to me.
I have personal empathy for people in tough situations, and that allows me to take a personal interest in the well-being of my clients.
Bankruptcy and consumer protection are areas where I can provide clients with direct financial assistance.
I find legal work to be very satisfying, because of the challenges it presents. I feel a sense of personal satisfaction when I help a client overcome a difficult situation. I also have personal dislike for "financial bullies," who use their financial strength to take advantage of people. I like to win cases against these financial bullies, whether they are big banks/credit card companies; insurance companies or auto dealers.
I am a solo practitioner, so all my clients deal directly with me. This allows us to build up good personal relationships and get good legal results.
I am a good communicator and an aggressive litigator. I have an excellent track record for getting good results for my clients.
I have a passion for the outdoors, which is why I love Central Oregon. I like skiing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and camping.
I am available to see clients during and after office hours. Call for appointment.
