Evaluated and built a computer simulation of the emergency ambulance system of St Louis, Missouri under a grant from the St. Louis Commission on Crime and Law Enforcement.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The more knowledge that a client has on legal issues, the better I can help them obtain the best protection or maximum value from their Intellectual Property.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am very open to reviewing documents prepared by my clients. In fact, I often do review such documents since many aspects of Intellectual Property law depend on the information presented by the client.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am happy to coach a client who wants to represent him/her self before the Patent and Trademark Office.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I decided to be an Intellectual Property lawyer because I've always been intrigued with the ownership of new ideas. Protecting an idea, which is at first conceptual, is challenging and a serious responsibility. There is a purity in the process which I admire.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I have worked with Intellectual Property for forty years. I started in the U.S. Patent Office as a Patent Examiner where my specialty was valve systems. At this point of my career I had been involved with everything from air balloons to strings for Xylophones. Every inventor that I have ever worked with has a precious attachment to their idea, whether it's the giant tires of an off the road tractor or the sequins that go on a woman's undergarment. Each idea is a new birth. I am highly sensitive to that fact.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Since I studied engineering and I love creativity, Patent Law was a natural fit for me.

What do you like best about your career?

I love the opportunity to lead, guide, and inspire my clients to use patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and licensing for transforming their ideas into profit. I enjoy discovering and protecting valuable assets of a company that have been overlooked. Having my own practice gives me the opportunity to build a warm business relationship with my clients. My career has been particularly gratifying because I have the opportunity to work with the latest technology and my clients are the type of people I enjoy.

Tell us about your law firm:

I have a small office so all of my clients get personal attention and deal directly with me. While there are Patent Attorneys, Patent Agents and a professional engineer that are associated with the office, I have a personal involvement with each client. My administrative assistant is extremely knowledgeable about Patents and Trademarks and is sensitive to the needs of my clients.

What are your strengths and style?

My strength and style are a willingness to listen to my clients and help each client create the best possible product. I readily assist with suggestions and advice. My work procut is excellent and always on time. I encourage each client to strive for their best possible outcome.

Personal Interests:

I am a musician; I write music and play the guitar. I am a storyteller and I have two books of stories which have been published. I enjoy hiking, biking and cross country skiing. I have a wonderful family, a wife and two sons. When I get a chance, I'm a voracious reader.
