What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The more education the client has the better.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am willing to review all documents prepared by my clients and encourage clients to produce as much as possible to help their cases.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I do not coach clients that want to represent themselves. When an attorney gives legal advice, he is essentially representing the client.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

My father was an attorney and I knew that I wanted to be a criminal defense attorney at a very young age. I grew up watching Perry Mason, and I believe in challenging the authority of the government.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

My father was a refuge in World War II and this made me appreciate what a tyrannical government can do to people. I am a native Houstonian and this helps me because I am intimately familiar with Houston and the surrounding area. I have handled more than 4,000 criminal cases and I feel that I have gleaned a great deal of wisdom from these cases.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I am interested in people. Criminal Law and immigration gives me the opportunity to interact with all kinds of people.

What do you like best about your career?

I enjoy helping people, and I enjoy helping to produce an outcome for them that they might not have received with someone else.

Tell us about your law firm:

My law firm consists of myself, Eric Benavides, Mayra Cavazos, and Donne Breston. We all interact with you. However, only Eric Benavides and I will give you legal advice.

What are your strengths and style?

I am very honest. Sometimes, I tell people what they do not want to hear but need to hear. I do not sugar coat information in order to convince people to hire me.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy working out, playing golf, and spending time with my family.
