Firm Focus and History

I practice primarily Family Law, including marriage dissolutions, divorce, child custody and support, adoptions as well as Probate Law including Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning. Bill Beck Law is located in Tarpon Springs, Pinellas County, Florida and practices in Pinellas County, Pasco County, and Hillsborough County.

I started Bill Beck Law as a solo practice in June 2008. Because of its success and growth, I expanded with another attorney and support staff in January 2009. I am now affiliated with a firm with over 30 years of legal experience in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Previous Employment Summary

After graduating from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, I served as a judicial law clerk for civil and criminal circuit court judges as a Trial Court Law Clerk and Judicial Staff Attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida. I am also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator and have mediated Family Law cases throughout the State.

Before starting Bill Beck Law, I worked at Zimmet and Unice, P.A., in Palm Harbor, Florida as an Assistant City and County Attorney. Prior to law school, I worked as a paramedic and first responder in Los Angeles County, California and served four years as a Fireman in the United States Navy attached to the Navy Submarine Command in San Diego, California.

Working my way through College and Law School, I performed a lot of blue-collar work in the construction management industry, heavy equipment operating, and worked for the Public Transportation Department for the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska. I have traveled extensively and lived for years in foreign countries. I observe and listen well, learn fast, work hard, respect humanity and enjoy life for all its experiences.

Activities and Awards

As a youth, I earned the Eagle Scout award and currently volunteer as a youth leader with the Boy Scouts of America. I also volunteer extensively with my local church and am a member of the Tarpon Springs Rotary Club.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Clients should understand the law in order to de-mystify the legal process they're engaged in. I'm very good at explaining the law and helping clients understand what to expect. I view my role as being a legal counselor, educator, guide, and facilitator. I listen to the facts and desires of my clients and then advise them about their legal options. I explain the law and how the courts interpret each situation to make the law less intimidating and more predictable. I have found that informed and educated clients make better decisions about the direction, posture, and outcome of their case. Because I recognize my proper role as your attorney, I keep you informed and advised throughout the entire process. The lawyer and client should make decisions through understanding, team work, and collaboration.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am willing to review documents and assist brave and adventurous clients who have already started the legal journey without a guide.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am willing to coach and offer advice to adventurous and brave pro se litigants.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I have always enjoyed helping people and families through difficult times. Being a lawyer allows me to help individuals on a personal and intimate level when the law may seem impersonal and intimidating. Our laws are really just a set of rules we use to govern our lives and our relationships. Like any game, it's easier to play and win when you understand how to succeed. It's my job to explain the rules and to help you succeed with the law. I get a lot of personal satisfaction from helping people understand how to use the law to find security and happiness.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I decided to become a lawyer based on my experiences and observations as a blue-collar worker, husband, and father. I recognize that I have the ability to listen and communicate well. I explain the law in an understandable way and represent your position in court. I worked through school with a young family and earned my college and legal education informed and motivated with real-life experiences and passion. I represent my clients with that same passion and success.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Family Law is very personal and allows me to use my outstanding character, skills, and abilities to help good people through difficult times with the most positive results. I try to be the type of lawyer I would want to represent my mother, father, brother, sister, or children.

What do you like best about your career?

I appreciate knowing that I make a positive impact on people's lives. I enjoy preserving, protecting, and sometimes repairing vital family relationships, even through the process of divorce.

Tell us about your law firm:

We have a great team spirit here at Bill Beck Law. I am lucky to have found a group of people who share my passion and concern for the welfare of the people we work for. We appreciate that most people don't hire lawyers every day, so the job of communicating, educating, and satisfying the client belongs to everyone in my office from day one.

What are your strengths and style?

I'm a very compassionate and caring person. I prepare for each court appearance and try to put myself in my client's shoes with every decision I make. I love the law and I know it well. I listen intently to my clients and discover their circumstances and goals. I know how much I appreciate being well informed and treated with honesty and compassion and that's how I deal with my friends and clients.

Personal Interests:

I like to spend time with my family at my son's Cub Scout activities, my daughter's performances, or just camping, swimming, or biking together. My wife and I have competed in triathlons together, although not too well, and I enjoy tennis, golf, and chess.
