What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe that clients become better consumers of legal services if they understood more clearly the legal issues confronting them. For this reason, our website is largely informational in nature!

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Generally my clients have no need to prepare these their own legal documents. However, I have reviewed legal documents prepared by clients who have wished to represent themselves in legal matters outside of bankruptcy.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I have coached clients representing themselves in legal matters outside of bankruptcy.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I decided to become a debtor’s consumer bankruptcy attorney because consumer debtors have no support groups, no lobbyists, no resources, and no one to turn to but consumer bankruptcy attorneys. Unlike credit card companies, mortgage companies and banks who have money, resources and lobbyists to use to their advantage.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Coming from a solid middle class background and attending public and state colleges allows me to relate closely to the problems and stresses that my clients experience.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I chose to practice consumer bankruptcy because I wanted to work closely with real people, solving real problems that could only be resolved through the application of the bankruptcy laws. I wanted to represent individuals, real people, not large companies.

What do you like best about your career?

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my bankruptcy practice is seeing the stress just fall from the shoulders of my clients when we file their bankruptcy case and the visible relief they experience when their case is completed.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner so all of my clients will be dealing directly with me. My long time assistant Sarah is very attentive to my clients’ needs. My secretary Madelynne is very caring and sympathetic to the plight of my clients as they often speak to her first.

What are your strengths and style?

Contributing to my strengths and ability to tailor my bankruptcy practice is the fact that I have worked in all three bankruptcy courts in New Jersey and before all nine New Jersey bankruptcy Judges. Also, as a member of the Lawyers Advisory Committee to the Board of Judges, I become aware of changes in the climate of the New Jersey bankruptcy practice and have the ability to contribute before the changes take effect.

Personal Interests:

My interests include music and flying.
