We are focused on representing neighborhood individuals and business in matters of probate, estate planning, real estate, general litigation and dispute resolution, and new business formations including corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships.
I first worked for Chicago Title Insurance Company out of law school in 1974 and learned about real estate transactions. I followed that up by working for a few law firms and eventually starting my own practice after seeing the politics of a larger firm setting. On my own, I can direct the process of representing my client in an economical and judicious manner and attempt to assist in the client's objective.
At Chicago Title Insurance Company I learned the insides of the title documentation field including reviewing condominium documentation and title clearance. I learned about document preparation and probate and estate matters. I then worked for various law firms where I did real estate development and general practice. I have been practicing law for 35 years.
I have done pro bono work for Reed Mental patients, Federal Defender Program for indigents charged with federal crimes, the Juvenile Public Defender Program, and have co-written an article on Contract Defenses for the Illinois continuing legal education program.
As the clothier says, "An educated consumer is our business." We feel the same. The more information one has, the better decisions one can make.
Whether prepared by a client or another attorney, document review is a part of our practice.
I have been in the background for clients who wish to go forward themselves, but do not recommend it.
For some reason I knew I was going to be a lawyer as a child as I was always a helper, working as a teenager as a counselor at a camp for blind and disabled children and later at a camp for children with muscular dystrophy.
As I mentioned, I was always sensitive to people's needs as a camp counselor, as a caregiver to my parents, and as a person who is open to others.
I became interested in real estate in college when I bought my first buildings, and in estate planning and probate when I was in law school and took courses in those areas. In general, I have a general practice where I can assist people in many areas of life's day to day problems.
I like the interaction with people, and taking my ability as being a problem solver and adapting it for them.
I am a solo practitioner in a shared office suite with other attorneys and a paralegal and secretary where we can discuss various case issues and get input and other perspectives from colleagues.
I am a good listener and sensitive to other people, but do not like to see other people taken advantage of and have a very strong sense of right and wrong.
I am a golfer and duplicate bridge player as well as an active world traveler and people person.
