Bankruptcy
I prefer to represent clients in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies, foreclosures, credit card debt, debt collection lawsuits and debt settlement, and loan modification matters.
OH, May 1988
Bar Number: 0029359
Ohio State Courts, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and U.S. Supreme Court.
National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA), Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA), and American Bar Association (ABA).
I attend continuing legal seminars on such topics as Bankruptcy, Foreclosure, and Litigation.
• "Freedom of Information: Basic Principles and Guidelines;"
• "Guidelines for Hazardous Waste Generators Under RCRA;"
• "Liability of Federal Agencies and Employees Under Environmental Laws."
I aggressively pursue and defend the rights of individual consumers and small businesses. I recently argued, successfully, for dismissal in a foreclosure law suit against an individual. The suit was ultimately withdrawn by the mortgage company, and the material and legal reasoning I used in my brief has been adopted by pro bono attorneys defending others in foreclosure law suits.
In Mansfield Ambulance, Inc. v. Galion, 2005-Ohio-3759, I represented an ambulance company who brought a breach of contract suit against the City of Galion for violating a clause in the contract that granted my client the exclusive right to transportation services. The Court of Appeals overruled the lower Court and found that my client had an exclusive agreement with the City. The case was settled in favor of my client.

The focus of my firm is to aggressively pursue and defend the rights of individual consumers and small businesses in debt settlement, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and contract matters through negotiation and representation in law suits. Every client receives personal, nonjudgmental, compassionate attention from me. You will not meet with a paralegal.
My firm was established in 1988 after a number of years in senior legal positions with the federal government and a private corporation.
• BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTE; General Counsel & Asst. General Mgr., Project Management Division; Columbus, Ohio.
• EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES; Special Counsel for Legislation; Washington, D.C.
• U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION; Chief Counsel for Operations and Administration; Washington, D.C.
Pro Bono work for Legal Aid Society in foreclosure as part of "Save the Dream" program.
My experience is that clients want to become educated before they ask for help from an attorney so that they can ask intelligent questions and evaluate their need for an attorney. I encourage potential clients to educate themselves through the internet and library materials. I provide handouts and have material on my website for their education. I also encourage them to continue to educate themselves about their case after they have retained me.
I am willing to review documents prepared by clients. In bankruptcy matters, I furnish the clients a form which helps them gather needed information and helps educate them in the type of information required by the bankruptcy court.
I am willing to coach clients on a case-by-case basis.
My Political Science professor at Northwestern University was an attorney and inspired me to become a lawyer. Years later we found ourselves working together on an issue for the federal government, and I was able to tell him about my gratitude for his inspiration.
I have had a broad ranging work experience in a number of legal fields, which allows me to be a wiser and, at the same time, more compassionate lawyer. I've drafted legislation that has become law, while part of the Executive Office of the President of the United States. And I've shared the concerns and heartbreak of those threatened with losing their homes and other assets for which they've worked so hard.
I'm at a stage in my career where my desire is to be the best advocate possible for individuals and small businesses in an unsettled economy and a rapidly changing world.
Keeping people in their homes. Helping people get a fresh start. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction.
I am a solo practitioner. Everyone receives individual attention. My clients do not meet with a paralegal or secretary.
My strength is my compassion for my clients and the life situations that they encounter. I'm a good listener. I'm a good analyst of legal matters, and I also have an ability to be creative in seeking legal remedies for my clients. I particularly enjoy legal research and brief writing.
Music, service for my church, baseball, and my daughter's artwork are my primary interests. I've been performing as a singer since I was a kid. I continue to do so as a soloist in concerts and at church. I also sing regularly in the Columbus Community Chorus, a church choir, and, during its existence, with Gospel Meets Symphony. I produce musical concerts. I serve on the Board of Directors of my church and as Treasurer. I also donate my time to Legal Aid. I'm an avid fan of the New York Yankees baseball team and the New York Giants football team.

The attorney fee for a Chapter 7 petition is typically $700 for an individual consumer, which includes preparation of the petition, representation of the client at a 341 hearing, and representation for reaffirmation agreements. The fee could be as much as $1,500 for a complex matter. The attorney fee does not include filing fees required by the bankruptcy court ($299), fees for credit counseling from third-party organizations ($100 for 2 courses), or a fee for a credit report.
$200.
I offer a free initial consultation that is not time-limited. I believe that it is important that a potential client get to know me and the service I can provide and is fully informed about the legal requirements of the matter involved. For example, many potential clients are not aware that the law now requires that anyone seeking to file bankruptcy first have counseling by a certified credit counselor and obtain a certificate of training. I explain the counseling requirements, the means test and the differences between Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcies.
Retainers are case-dependent.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
