After being in practice for nearly 20 years, I decided to establish my own firm in 2006 so that I could provide affordable and high quality legal services to clients without the constraints dictated by a firm.

Previous Employment Summary

Prior to establishing Law Practice, Ltd. in 2006, I was employed by a small boutique law firm in Las Vegas, Nevada, where I handled all of the family law matters as well as other civil matters. It was through this experience that I decided to focus my practice on family law and create my own firm.

Prior to relocating to Las Vegas, I exclusively represented landlords in evictions/unlawful detainer actions for 14 years, handling more than 10,000 eviction cases over the course of my career as managing attorney for one of the busiest eviction law firms in southern California.

Activities and Awards

• Children's Attorney Project
• Pro Bono/Ask A Lawyer Program
• Argued before Nevada Supreme Court (see Kourafas v. Basic Food Flavors, Inc., 88 P.3d 822 ( Nev. 2004)).

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe that clients should be informed as to the legal process as well as the law and I provide each new client with written materials to guide them through their case so that they know what to expect.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I do not recommend that clients prepare their own documents or have their documents prepared by paralegals as these usually need to be re-drafted. Therefore, our firm does not review client documents for filing with the court.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We do not believe that this is practical or ethical and encourage clients to retain legal counsel to handle their case. We are, however, willing to represent clients in an unbundled capacity (limited representation) for single court hearings or for the preparation of limited legal documents and pleadings.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

As a libra, I was always able to see both sides of an argument and seemed destined to become a lawyer. Throughout law school and as a practicing attorney for more than 20 years, I have learned that the law is not as black and white as people might think and that, in fact, we are usually in a gray area.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I grew up working behind the counter at my father's store, and he instilled in me a strong work ethic. I am not afraid of hard work, not deterred by a challenge, and believe that I am a good listener as well as a skilled attorney and that this combination serves my clients well.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I decided to primarily focus upon this area of law because I derive great satisfaction from helping my clients on a daily basis and assisting them with moving on with their lives.

What do you like best about your career?

With my own firm, I enjoy having the flexibility to determine the fees that I want to charge, and the way that I want cases to be handled. I believe that each client must be treated with respect and compassion, especially in this highly emotionally charged area of the law.

Tell us about your law firm:

I founded Law Practice, Ltd. in 2006. I have more than twenty years of legal and business experience. My associate Sean Ambrose joined Law Practice, Ltd. in 2008 after having been the law clerk for Judge Michael Villani, 8th Judicial District Court. Mr. Ambrose has more than three years of legal experience, and brings a calming demeanor, level head, and sense of empathy to what can be a very emotional and turbulent area of law. Matthew Friedman, J.D., joined our firm as a law clerk in 2007. He has several years of political and legal experience, having previously worked for Governor Kenny Guinn as a public affairs liaison and speech writer. Mr. Friedman will be taking the Nevada Bar Exam in July 2009.

What are your strengths and style?

Over the course of my career, I have developed considerable skill as a litigator, but I strive to successfully negotiate the resolution of disputes whenever possible. I personally handle or supervise each case in our office in order to insure that all are effectively and efficiently managed, and our firm strives to address each clients' needs in an honest and professional manner, keep each client well-informed and advised, and to reach the best possible result available for each client.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy cooking, hiking in Red Rock with my chocolate labrador, watching movies, and playing PS3 with my godson. I also love reading a good mystery or crime novel while at the beach.
