The firm's main focus is consumer and business bankruptcies. The firm also handles cases involving foreclosure defense, construction matters (construction contracts and liens), other civil litigation, and some family law (we do not handle any personal injury claims or wills and trusts).
The firm was established in 1996 and has always had its offices in downtown Orlando. Since 1996, it has been a sole practice, although on occasion I have associated other sole practitioners to try larger cases.

Clients certainly should educate themselves as much as possible, but, given the amount of contradictory and sometimes misleading information which is available to the public, as well as scams, consultation with a lawyer is necessary for the client to really understand his or her situation.
I will gladly review the documents, but there will be a fee associated with the time I spend on them. If I end up filing a bankruptcy, I usually credit the fee toward the bankruptcy.
I will not coach clients who want to represent themselves.
Initially, I considered college teaching, however, I decided that law school would permit me to combine the intellectual with the ability to help clients solve their problems.
• Serving as a law clerk to a United States District Judge
• Attending the Universidad de Madrid for a year and living with a Spanish family
• Working with Hispanic community groups
• Doing pro bono work for the Orange County Bar Association
• Serving as Guardian ad Litem for retarded citizens against the State of Florida
• Teaching law at two local law schools (bankruptcy, business organizations, professional responsibility, motions & depositions, interviewing & counseling, and remedies) as well as a local community college
Initially, it was by chance. I was with a firm that did surety defense and construction law and we had several cases which required representation in bankruptcy court.
The occasional realization that you have actually helped somebody win a struggle and come out better for it.
I am the only lawyer in my firm and I personally interview and handle each client's case personally. I have one legal assistant who is well versed in bankruptcy matters.
I deal with each client personally, including initial interviews, and try to return phone calls and e-mail within 24 hours. I like to find out what the client's life is like so that I can better understand what his or her needs are.

Yes. The fixed fees for bankruptcy are $1,500 to $2,000 for a Chapter 7 (plus filing fee) and a minimum of $4,500 for a Chapter 13 (plus filing fee). Deposits for any Chapter 11 work depend on the specific case. Any litigated or contested matters are hourly at $250 per hour.
$250 to $300.
If I believe a client will really file bankruptcy, I either will waive the initial consultation fee or credit it toward an eventual filing.
For Chapter 7, all fees must be paid before filing.
