I attend continuing legal education seminars on a variety of topics, including all aspects of family law and the many related fields of law including enforcement of judgments and real estate. I have also taught continuing education courses on New Mexico landlord tenant law and federally subsidized housing, including fair housing issues.
In a recent case we represented a parent seeking to enforce a Marital Settlement Agreement entered as part of a very contentious divorce, which required ongoing payment of support for a child with severe physical and mental limitations who was nearing the age of majority. The case involved collaboration between the Guardian Ad Litem appointed to protect the child, the other parent's attorney and a variety of court experts involved in evaluating the best environment long-term environment and guardianship arrangement for the child. The case provided considerable insight into the many facets of the area generally deemed family law and highlighted the needed push for outcomes that can serve a client's needs in both the long and short term.

Collins & Collins, P.C. represents clients in the areas of personal injury, criminal defense, and divorce and family law. I focus on family law and divorce. Alysan Boothe Collins focuses almost exclusively on personal injury and Parrish Collins focuses his practice on criminal defense and personal injury.
Collins & Collins, P.C. was established in 2001 as Parrish Collins, Attorney at Law. In 2003, Alysan Boothe Collins joined Collins & Collins, P.C. after practicing in insurance defense for 10 years. I have been working with Collins & Collins, P.C. as Of Counsel since 2007.
In high school and college, at the University of New Mexico, I worked primarily for my family's construction and real estate development company, doing everything from cleaning up construction sites to managing a commercial office building. While attending the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., I worked for Susan L. Sanders, an attorney specializing in the areas of estate and tax. During the summer breaks from law school, I would return home to Albuquerque, working during the summer of my first year as a law clerk with the firm of Freedman, Boyd, Daniels, Hollander, Goldberg and Cline and the summer of my second year as a law clerk with the Office of the Federal Public Defender. Upon graduating from law school in May of 2004, I returned to New Mexico for good. While studying for the bar exam and thereafter, I performed contract projects for various civil attorneys until I went to work for the City of Albuquerque as the Assistant City Attorney representing Albuquerque Housing Services in December of 2004. I left the City and started a general, civil practice in November of 2006, and joined Collins & Collins, P.C. as Of Counsel in the spring of 2007.
I am a board member of Law Access New Mexico, a non-profit dedicated to providing legal services to low income individuals. I also volunteer in New Mexico's Second Judicial District Volunteer Attorney Pool which offers free advice and forms for individuals wishing to represent themselves. The organization also provides a list of other organizations and resources to assist those representing themselves in legal actions. I also teach Continuing Legal Education Courses on subsidized housing and related issues. Finally, I am a member of the New Mexico Young Lawyers Division and regularly participate in their volunteer projects including Wills for Heroes, Junior Judges, mock interview programs for law student and a variety of other programs.
We at Collins & Collins, P.C. believe it is critical that clients educate themselves on their legal matters. We maintain open lines of communication with our clients so that they may contact us anytime with questions on their cases. We provide our clients with copies of everything coming in or leaving our office that relates to their case so they also know the status of their case. In addition, should our clients wish to learn more about the area of the law on their own, we gladly direct them to other sources of information such as Nolo, Justia, the Cornell Legal Information Institute, the State Bar of New Mexico, the State of New Mexico District Court Website, and others. This empowers our clients to learn as much about their cases as they desire. A knowledgeable client is good for at Collins & Collins, P.C. and more importantly, it is good for our clients.
Collins & Collins, P.C. does not generally review documents prepared by clients. This issue would rarely arise in the area of personal injury or criminal defense. In limited circumstances, Collins & Collins, P.C. will review documents prepared by clients in family law and divorce matters.
Collins & Collins, P.C. will not coach clients on how to represent themselves in legal matters. The law is far too complicated, and requires years of training and experience to competently pursue any legal matters. The consequences of missteps can be very serious. Having said that, should clients decide to proceed on their own, there are a number of very helpful sites where they can educate themselves on their legal matters including Nolo, Justia, the Cornell Legal Information Institute, the State Bar of New Mexico, the State of New Mexico District Court Website
My fascination with the law began as a child. My father had a keen interest in history, politics and government. I was a shy child and an avid reader, and eventually my father began giving me books that mirrored his interests and we would have long discussions about those topics. In retrospect, I think his goal was to bring me out of my shell by finding a common interest for us, but it also led to my involvement in student government and a variety of other related activities in high school. In college, I studied journalism and mass communication as a way to cultivate my interest in writing in relation to a broad variety of subject matter. I entered law school with the same interest in a broad legal education and I think I bring the commitment of constant learning to my practice of the law.
Growing up in a large, closely knit family where everyone has an opinion (opinions that are often expressed loudly and passionately) has taught me that most issues have several sides, but that advocating for your side takes courage, stamina, and a sense of when you must compromise.
I enjoy family law because it is incredibly broad and allows me to investigate a variety of legal topics. Even a basic divorce case involves not only the applicable rules about custody, child support, and the principles of community property, but often requires some insight into real estate, tax and other areas of the law. Other cases can lead you to study everything from competing medical diagnoses to the history of and valuation methods for a piece of art. The constant opportunity to learn new things can make a family law practice very exciting.
As I have noted throughout this profile, I like that the practice of law allows, and sometimes forces me, to always keep learning and seeing the world from different perspectives.
There are three attorneys at Collins & Collins, P.C., although most family law clients deal directly with me. Our legal assistant, Kelly Vicioni, seems to know everything and manages to stay calm in even the most stressful situations. Her knowledge and patience is a great asset to the firm and our clients.
I believe my strengths are a desire to truly understand our clients' goals and a commitment to always do my best to achieve those goals, within the boundaries of the law. I believe that open communication, education, and reasonableness are essential to achieving the best results possible for our clients.
I enjoy spending time with my family and enlisting them to help me tackle a seemingly never-ending list of home improvement projects. I also enjoy playing soccer and golf and cheering on the Lobo football team. I also love New Mexico history and taking trips to see all the amazing places this state has to offer.

Collins & Collins, P.C. does not have flat fee services for family law or divorce cases. These cases are too unpredictable for flat fee arrangements. In our estimation, flat fee arrangements in family law and divorce cases can result in the serious neglect of the client's interest due to sometimes inevitable conflicts between the flat fee and the significant level of time typically required on one of these cases.
$175.
We offer free initial consultations for the purposes of determining the rights and obligations of the client and their particular circumstances. The length of the consultation varies according to the circumstances, but generally takes no more than 20 minutes unless the case is particularly complex.
In family law and divorce cases, we require a minimum retainer typically at $2,500. When there is the possibility of prompt resolution, the retainer will be less. Likewise, when the issues are complex or there is a high level of conflict between the parties, the retainer may be significantly higher. We encourage the prompt, fair, and reasonable resolution in order to minimize the financial and emotional toll that these cases can take on our clients. However, we recognize that the other party or attorney may have plans that involve long, expensive, and stressful litigation. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we cannot always avoid this course which dictates higher retainers and overall fees that are based entirely on our hourly rates.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
