What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Clients should take steps to educate themselves on legal issues. Without that education, it is impossible to understand when an attorney can help, causing clients to either incur unnecessary attorney fees or, even worse, not consult an attorney when there is a serious issue.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am always willing to review documents clients have prepared. In my experience, clients tend to do better when they are involved in the legal work.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am willing to help clients represent themselves. Most often, that is not a wise course of action for clients, but, in some cases, that is appropriate. In those cases, I am happy to advise clients who wish to act on their own behalf.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

In this day and age, with more and more rules and regulations, lawyers are necessary to help people manage their personal and business affairs.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

As a small business owner myself, I understand the value of having a good business plan to ensure the business thrives and of having a well thought out estate plan to provide for my loved ones and to make sure my business survives.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Throughout my years of practice, I've come to understand that an ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure. After seeing some of the problems that can arise if an estate plan is poorly conceived, or not prepared at all, or if a business does not show proper planning, I decided to focus on estate planning and business law.

What do you like best about your career?

My favorite part of my career is seeing how my preventative measures actually help clients. For example, I have a business client I've worked hard with to reduce the client's accounts receivable. I've seen firsthand just how useful some of the techniques are, and it is very gratifying to see that and know that was a lawsuit avoided while still accomplishing everything the client could have hoped for.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, and clients speak directly with me. My paralegal is fantastic and relates well to others. My assistant/office manager has a wealth of experience outside of the legal world and has a great understanding of non-legal issues.

What are your strengths and style?

I offer comprehensive services in estate planning, business, and real estate to my clients. As a result, I have the ability to foresee potential problems before they occur and address them before they become insurmountable issues. Therefore, my clients are able to minimize their legal fees because their legal matters can often be addressed before they become extremely expensive and time consuming.

Personal Interests:

Outside of the office, I have a variety of interests. I am very active in Republican politics in many positions. I enjoy a number of sports, including downhill skiing, ice hockey, and tennis. Lastly, I am a fan of classical music and was a trumpeter before becoming a lawyer.
