Previous Employment Summary

I have been practicing since 1996 and have represented individuals and corporations, and began practicing solo in 2001. In 2008, my partner, Kristin M. Smith and I formed Allyn Smith Law Group, P.C. Our philosophy is to provide a personalized team approach to our client's legal issues.

Activities and Awards

Volunteer mediator for Family Assessment Mediation and Education Department of the Wayne County Circuit Court.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

We believe that it is important for a client to be educated on any legal issues they are facing because it enables the client to fully participate in the process. In our opinion, such full participation enhances satisfaction with our representation. That is our goal every time - to have our client feel satisfied with our representation.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Our clients are encouraged to be active participants in their matter and we would be willing to review any documents that our clients provide, which will enable us to provide the best possible representation available to our clients.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Generally speaking, I believe a person would be well-advised to avoid self-representation.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I wanted to be able to help people transition through difficult situations while also having the opportunity to create my own future.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

Everything matters! I learn from every representation I undertake, and I make a point of paying attention to the world around me because it can spark the creative thinking that can be used to assist my clients.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

Again, I wanted to be able to help people transition through their difficulties. I've done a considerable amount of representation of corporations and wanted to be able to do something that actually matters to the people involved.

What do you like best about your career?

Knowing that I am helping people.

Tell us about your law firm:

I have a partner, Kristin M. Smith. We provide a team approach to client representation. We are hands on and are aware of every aspect of our client's case.

What are your strengths and style?

I am compassionate, but strong and am able to modify my approach to a matter based on what is best suited to the situation. My clients feel that they truly have an advocate on their side.

Personal Interests:

There's nothing better than spending time with my loved-ones and my dog, but I have a lot of other interests when time permits.
