Our law firm focuses on Colorado Real Estate Law, Estate Planning and Colorado Business Law. This focus has evolved over the last 11 years. I have practiced family law, criminal law, and civil litigation and still take on selective cases in these fields. Our current passions are real estate development, homeowner associations, estate planning and business development.
I took the Colorado Bar Exam in 1994 and passed on my first try. I then went back to school to complete a Master of Science degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. I then worked for an environmental consulting company as a policy analyst and natural resource specialist. While working at the environmental consulting company, my boss and I started a law practice. I then began my own law practice in 1998 in Gunnison County, Colorado. Since that time, I have represented clients throughout the nation, with the majority of my clients being situated in Colorado. In addition to my private law practice, I have worked as the Municipal Court Judge in Salida for six years and continue that work to this day. I also have worked as a volunteer arbitrator for the Colorado Bar Association. My experience as a Colorado Attorney has enabled me to team up with an assortment of other attorneys for various legal matters.
The more educated my clients are the better they understand the quality of the services I provide. I encourage my clients to educate themselves on legal issues.
I am willing to review documents prepared by clients.
I have coached many clients and thoroughly enjoy empowering my clients with what they need to represent themselves.
I have always enjoyed problem solving. I get great satisfaction from helping people resolve conflict. My problem solving skills were enhanced by my legal education so that I now have the capability of assisting a greater number of people.
My work experience as a judge helps me to be a better attorney. I participate in continuing legal education through the Colorado Municipal Judges Association and that ongoing education assists in my professional growth.
Estate planning, real estate law and business law all involve a mix of technical document preparation and analytical problem solving. I enjoy creating strategic plans with my clients to help them understand their options and then create plans for the future.
The best part of my career is my clients. My clients are smart and successful. I enjoy using my skills and knowledge of the law to help my clients if they get into trouble. But usually my clients hire me to advise them on how to prepare so that they minimize the risk of getting into situations that are not helping them to reach their goals.
My law firm is located in the charming town of Crested Butte in Gunnison County, Colorado. I have been practicing law in Gunnison County for 11 years. I have had associate attorneys work for me and I have had partnership relationships with other attorneys. I have also had opportunities to work with a large support staff. Currently, I am the only attorney at the firm and I am supported by my assistant, Tammy Armour.
My strengths are problem solving and strategic planning. I am good at discussing worst case scenarios for my clients and then preparing to minimize their likelihood and effect. My style is friendly, efficient and to-the-point. I like to get work done quickly.
My greatest personal interest is my daughter. I like to ski with her in the winter and in the summer I like to hike and bike with her. I also love reading, especially about current events, politics and the economy.
