Firm Focus and History

I focus on giving my clients personal attention and working with them to attain a positive outcome for their legal problem.

I entered law school when my younger daughter had finished her first term in college. I completed law school in three years and passed the bar the first time I took it. After law school I held a contract position with an oil company. I began my own law firm in 1999 and have handled criminal defense cases, family law cases, civil litigation, and bankruptcy.

Previous Employment Summary

I worked as an Administrator for the Kent County Prosecutor's Office in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While attending law school, I worked as an intern in the Worthless Check Division of the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

Activities and Awards

Pro Bono work for Houston Bar Association's Volunteer Lawyers.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I think that clients who care enough to educate themselves on their legal issues will assist me in presenting their case to their best advantage.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?

In most cases, I prefer to prepare the documents myself. I will review a prenuptial agreement prepared by other attorneys and advise a client seeking a consultation.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am unable to coach clients who want to represent themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?

I wanted to be a lawyer all my life. When I was able to go to law school, I did. I believe that being a lawyer allows me to make a difference in people's lives and to help them through difficult times in their lives.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?

I raised three children and I have experienced a divorce myself. Additionally, I have run my own business. Almost any problem my clients bring to me, I have some personal knowledge of.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?

I chose bankruptcy and probate because I believe those two areas are where I can assist people in changing their lives for the better.

What do you like best about your career?

I like that I can help people who oftentimes are "at the end of their rope." I have some clients who send me thank you notes on a regular basis because I have assisted them in solving big problems and getting their lives on track.

Tell us about your law firm:

I am a solo practitioner, so all of my clients deal directly with me. When they call, they can reach me and I handle all of their matters personally. My clients can count on me being beside them when they get to the courthouse.

What are your strengths and style?

I'm calm in the face of confusion and I am honest and straightforward with my clients. Many times, clients come to me thinking they only have one option and I am able to offer them a choice of several options.

Personal Interests:

I enjoy my dogs—two Westies. I have six grandchildren who make me very happy. I love to travel, collect antiques, and do genealogical research.
