Example Cases
I have been the lead attorney on the following appeals that have resulted in rulings favorable to injured individuals:
Delgado v. Trax Bar & Grill In this case, our client was assaulted in a parking lot as he and his wife left a night club. This California Supreme Court ruling sets forth the circumstances under which a night club can be held responsible for injuries to patrons who are attacked by third parties.
Mata v. Mata In this case, our client was an 11 year old girl whose father was fatally shot at a tavern. The Court of Appeal found that the tavern owner could be held responsible for not properly hiring and training his staff to deal with disruptive patrons. This case ultimately settled before going to trial.
Cohen v. Five Brooks Stable In this case our client was injured when she fell from a horse during a guided trail ride at Five Brooks Stable. She was dragged by her horse over a quarter of a mile. The Court of Appeal concluded that although Ms. Cohen had signed a Release before going on the horseback ride, the Release did not clearly and unambiguously inform an ordinary person, such as Ms. Cohen, that its purpose and effect was to exempt Five Brooks Stable from liability for its own employee's negligence. This matter settled after the Court of Appeal issued its opinion.

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
It is important that my clients are educated regarding the civil litigation process and either or I can educate my clients to educate themselves on the process or they can take the initiative to educate themselves.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
I never have to do the same thing over and over. Instead, every client and every case offers unique issues and challenges.
What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
I have 21 years of experience practicing law. I have worked for firms where I represented insurance companies and am able to utilize that experience in representing individuals with claims against insurance companies. In addition, I stay current on trends in the law as a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and the California Consumer Attorneys of California.
Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
I chose my specialty because I enjoy helping people.
What do you like best about your career?
I enjoy being able to resolve a case and put my clients back on their feet.

My office manger is Donna Kamahele. She has over twenty years experience as an officer manager/legal secretary. She has worked for larger international firms in San Francisco and brings her extensive work experience to work on each and every case that we handle. Maritza Hurtado is my legal assistance that handles our cases involving Spanish speaking clients.
What are your strengths and style?
We feel that our success has been in building quality relationships with our clients. All of our clients are treated with integrity and respect for their individual needs, goals and objectives. By hiring the firm, clients receive personal attention and professional representation second-to-none.
We believe that in order to obtain a successful settlement or verdict for our clients, we must provide hard work, compassion and attention to every detail. In addition, I am dedicated to one-on-one contact between myself and my clients. I do not want my clients having to go through three or four telephone calls before being able to speak directly to me or to sit down with me to discuss the status of their case.

The only time that we require a retainer is for work we do on an hourly basis. The typical retainer is $2,500.
