Wills, Trusts & Estates
I am available for any client in need of a will, trust, power of attorney or advanced health care directive. I have found that many people need to update and simplify older documents to reflect changes in their lives. I also provide rapid simple probate assistance for uncontested estates. I am flexible in providing as much or as little assistance as the client requires.

Bar Number: 04906
Supreme Court of the State of Utah.
Utah State Bar, Estate Planning Section of the Utah State Bar, Salt Lake Estate Planning Council.
I attend continuing legal education seminars on the topics of estate planning, elder law, health directives, probate, charitable giving, and estate and gift tax issues.
I have worked with hundreds of individuals and couples to plan their estates so that their wishes are achieved with a minimum of administrative costs or taxes. Some of my favorite projects have involved using charitable remainder trusts to direct donations to health charities and educational institutions while also reducing the income tax burden on the client. One of my most recent cases involved the administration of a small estate, dividing the proceeds between two local children's hospitals.

I established my solo practice in Salt Lake City in 1987. My practice has always focused on estate planning and probate.
My firm works exclusively in the area of estate planning and probate. It is my goal to provide custom documents for each unique situation. I'd like every client to leave my office with all the estate planning documents they need - and to have them understand what they have signed.
I worked my way through college at Milne Truck Lines as a file clerk, accounts receivable clerk and payroll clerk. After college I married and had two children. The children were small when I started law school, where I had a goal to take all the classes related to estate planning. Since graduating from law school, I have enjoyed combining my career as an attorney with being a mom to one son and three daughters.
• I have been the featured speaker regarding estate planning for community and church groups.
• I served as the President of the Utah Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation from 2000-2001.
I am a do-it-yourself person - from painting to electrical work and plumbing. I also know that sometimes things are more complicated than they appear, and I have to call a professional. I am available to help clients who have discovered that they need some professional legal assistance to meet their estate planning needs or to settle a loved one's affairs.
I am happy to review documents prepared by another attorney or the client for a fee. I will try to find the most cost-effective way to help clients achieve their estate planning goals. I am also available to review and explain existing documents for clients.
I try to keep my clients out of court, so if you need assistance representing yourself in court, I can refer you to some "bulldog" litigators I know.
I like helping people and making sure that they are dealt with honestly.
I have been working with all sizes of estates for people from all backgrounds, and I have learned a lot from 20 years of client situations. I know that life doesn't usually turn out like we plan and most families have hard issues to work through when planning or distributing an estate.
My father asked me to serve as the Trustee of his trust. I remember reading the document and having no idea what it said. A year later I went to law school with a desire to help others plan their estates and be able to know what they were reading and signing.
I have met the most interesting people through my practice and have heard some amazing life stories. I love it when clients thank me for making their estate planning easy for them. Some have even sent me flowers. I also like the flexibility of setting my own schedule so that I can be available when my children need me.
I am a solo practitioner. I answer the phone. I prepare all the documents. I personally attend to every detail of my practice. (It is that do-it-yourself thing.) If you call and I don't answer it is because I am with a client. I will never interrupt your appointment to take a telephone call. But I will return your call as soon as I am available.
I like to find the most economical way to solve problems. I can sift through a lot of information to find a straightforward solution to complicated issues. With a background in speech and journalism I can explain legal terms in plain English and create readable legal documents.
I love living in Utah and reading about Utah history. I enjoy spending time with each of my four children. The youngest is a tennis player and I like watching her play in local tennis tournaments and for Skyline High School. Another is attending UC Davis for graduate school. My son is an avid reader and writer. The oldest is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and Utah and is working at KSL Television. I play a little tennis and like to see what I can grow in my garden.

Yes
Most of my estate planning services are done on a fixed fee basis, which is outlined during the initial consultation based on the needs of the client. Typical fees are as follows:
• Trust package for a single individual - $795 includes the preparation of a will, a revocable living trust, a durable power of attorney for financial matters, and an Advanced Health Care Directive. This also includes the transfer of the primary residence into the trust. Additional parcels of real property are transferred at $50 each. The client receives instructions on transferring additional assets and may request additional assistance as needed.
• Trust package for a couple - $995 includes the above documents with wills and durable powers of attorney for both partners.
• Will package for a single individual - $500 which includes the preparation of a simple will, durable power of attorney and Advanced Health Care Directive.
• Will package for couple - $700 which includes two wills, two durable powers of attorney and two Advanced Health Care Directives.
• Simple Uncontested Probate Matters - $1,950 plus court costs and publication fee.
• The above fees are typical but many factors may cause the fees to increase such as complex trust provisions for special needs children, complicated tax planning or the need for multiple drafts or additional meetings. We will agree in writing on the fees prior to my starting any work on your case.
$175.
Consultations are billed at my hourly rate. If you mention Nolo I will meet with you for a one hour consultation for $100 (a savings of $75). This fee will be waived if I am retained to prepare the estate plan or handle the probate matter.
I require one-half of the agreed upon fee to begin work, with the balance due when the draft documents have been delivered to the client. The fee for simple probates must be paid in advance, unless other arrangements are made.
Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the applicable bar associations upon joining the directory.
Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any bar association.
